I had surgery on my eye two weeks ago for a retinal detachment. I went back to the doctors yesterday and he said I had to go in for another surgery right away because it was unsuccessful. I don't have insurance and the surgery they're doing is at the hospital which is a lot more expensive then where I got the first surgery.
I went for a second opinion and the Dr. told me he didn't think I needed surgery. The problem is it didn't feel like he looked as throughly as my other Dr. and the machine he used wasn't even working and he said it was hard to see behind my eye because I have a gas bubble. He does have 32 years experience but how do I know he didn't miss something? Everyone including him thinks they are wrong and they are trying to scam me.
The Dr. I saw is not my regular eye doctor which is why everyone thinks he's lying. My dad is trying to put me on his insurance but he doesn't know what's going on or even if they will cover it since it's a pre existing condition.
I talked to both my doctors who said I shouldn't wait and that if I did I could lose my vision at any time. I decided to just do the surgery and not wait because if he is right and I lose my vision then what the hell am I going to do?
Everyone's mad at me but I had to give an answer today and with it being my vision I didn't feel like I had much of a choice. I also had/have tears in my right eye and it could detach as well which would mean if I lose my left eye I only have one eye left to preserve. I just don't want to go blind I'm only 20.
What would you do in my situation? Do you think I made the right choice??

I hope everything works out for you. I know I wouldn't want to be in your shoes right now. Have you scoured the internet looking for the opinions of people who have been through what you're going through right now?
I was planning on seeing another doctor today but someone convinced me it wouldn't matter and also I would have had to drive myself and yesterday I was driving and ended up on the wrong side of the road. lol. I think it was partly due to a headache + nausea but I thought the road I turned down was a two way road for some reason so I got in the other lane and I looked up and a car was coming at me. XD
I was trying to find a forum or something online but I didn't think I would have had time to get a reply back soon enough and I had to make a decision quick. What sucks is the surgery I'm getting is the one I chose not to do the first time because of the cost..so I feel like it was a waste of money for the first surgery plus it gave me a cataract.
I wanted to wait till my regular doctor came back from vacation but they both told me it wouldn't be the best idea and that I could lose my eyesight at anytime. He actually wanted to get me into surgery after he saw me yesterday but no one could take me there. All he recommended was that if I wanted to wait for my other doctor I'd have to lie face down all day until I could see him but I could still lose some or all of my sight.
As far as my dad putting me on his insurance he told me that even if I waited until they put me on they wouldn't pay for it. -.- So I guess maybe I made the right choice, idk.
The dilemma was whether to believe him or not. Everyone thinks he's trying to scam me because I was okay last week when I saw my other doc. but the point of me coming each week was to check to see if it was still attached.
Everyone was worried about the bill but they didn't understand that it's my eye were talking about and the doctor actually wanted me to go in for surgery the day he saw me.
It's nice to come back here and see that everyone has voted yes so far. ^.^
I feel like an old person. -.- I have to go back in a couple months or so and get the oil removed and then I have to get cataract surgery.
