Try and name the OP. What I love about this site is the anonymity in asking questions and even answering them. You aren't obliged to share any information about yourself whatsoever.

When I see stories being posted or questions asked, it annoys me to no end when people try and guess who the OP without regard for privacy.

i bet i know who this is

Uh-oh! I used to this in the past but then someone wrote a real nasty story about me for doing it, so I stoped. You might catch me every now and again doing it, but I try my best to remember that some people don't like it, and that some people really don't like it.

Sorry to whoever you are if you see this.

Now I ask for permission before I just blurt it out. Most of the user do not mind when I guess, then again it is usually the nicest user here like dappled, NoraBaker And Saycheese {I miss her}. I'm not saying the others aren't nice. It's just those particular user are extremely nice and do not mind.

I never meant to offend anyone it's just when you really care about someone it's not hard to see them shine through their post. Then you want to let them know how much you know about them. It's like a sign of affection when I do it, really that's all it is.

Plus, I just really love to guess. If you don't believe me, just ask DannyKanes! :D

I suppose I never thought about it that way. That's sweet.

It's nice when they tell you that they don't mind, and you guess them right. :}

I'll tell you what. Seeing as I already know some of the users here so well, I'll make an extra effort to stop. There's really no need for me to keep proving my feelings for them. They already know how much I care about them, so, I can stop. I want everyone here to be as comfortable as possible. ^_^

I don't mind if you guess if it's me, Spacey. ;]

I was called out on a story once, and I didn't mind at all. See: http://isitnormal.com/story/iin-i-wish-iin-had-the-option-to-subscribe-to-a-user-124314/comment-1116597

Okay, thanks! I probably shouldn't guess unless I am at least 76% sure, though. :}

I remember that. TheManagement even made a comment on your story! :D I knew the story about the dry foods and the dying plant were by you too.

Aww, that makes me want to give you a big hug!

Me too, me too! Let's play hug-a-ghost! You go first, close your eyes, I'm going to spin you!

Being spun by a spy strikes me as equally as thrilling as ghost-hugging. I think we've just invented a game that is going to drive you two crazy because I'm still going to be saying "Just one more turn" at 4am. :P

Hahaha I seriously want to play that now! :(

Me too! :/ Wake up, Spacey! It's time to play!

Flutterhigh, is that you?
Comment Hidden (show)
It really doesn't matter as you don't have to tell them who you are, they can guess all they want.

This post is dumb, you are dumb....and petty too!

I do sometimes. I would like to think that most users aren't able to guess which posts are mine. If they were I know I wouldn't like it. It's the price you pay for getting too comfy here.
Comment Hidden (show)
I don't particularly care. Some users have built up a reputation over time (such as tommythecat hating America and ItDuz hating women) and I see it as a way of being funny. I can see why you'd be uncomfortable, but I don't really pay any attention.
Comment Hidden (show)
I love to guess, and 9/10 I'm right. But I usually go on to comment about the content of the story.

If the OP wants to stay anonymous, they don't have to admit who they are. If the people don't appreciate the guessing, I suppose they can thumb down the comment. I honestly don't find it annoying at all. I think it's fun.

I wonder if this OP is annoyed because somebody correctly guessed who they were on a recent story? :P It's pretty petty to find such a thing annoying.

The only time I recall anyone ever openly tried to guess one of my posts, they turned out to be wrong (*cough*cough* dappled)-and I did correct his assumption publicly so.....yes, I'm honest about it I suppose people may have guessed other posts were mine, even though they probably weren't, but I'd never know...because they're not my posts and I wouldn't have seen or read it. Actually....Someone asked me in the chat once if a post was mine, it wasn't, but I never read the particular post they were referring to. Still don't know what it was or why they thought it was me.

Actually THAT'S what bothers me most....if someone was thinking a post was mine and it wasn't.

If someone outright asked me if a post was mine, I'd have no problem confirming it (providing it wasn't something EXTREMELY personal), I'm a very honest person. The main reasons I use the anon feature is to separate MY replies from everyone else's to avoid confusion, and so that just in case a person has strong feelings towards me it would alter their reply, which isn't right but it would happen.

I personally never even attempt to guess, and even if I had an inkling, I still wouldn't let it affect my answer nor would I dare ask the OP if it was them.

DAMN YOU, you ghostly thing!! Yes....and as I promised, I'd be honest if anyone asked...yes, that was my story.

Since I held to my promise, can you do me a solid and tell me what tipped you off? Or was it just the attitude the story exuded?

LOL XDDD

It was your comment from this story that tipped me off:

http://isitnormal.com/story/is-it-normal-to-not-know-what-your-blood-type-is-124860/

You made your story shortly after you made your comment on Avant-Garde's story^. Plus, you use double exclamation points a lot!! And double question marks?? You even use triples sometimes!!!??? :D

Who gives a fucking big rat ass shit? It's just the internet.

It's annoying. And honestly, it makes me feel a little oblivious and left out of the joke.

Agreed.
Comment Hidden (show)
I can completely understand why people would feel uncomfortable with it.

However, I'm not a typical user. First off, I've little to hide. Second, if I post something that is misjudged or makes me look a tool (as I did yesterday), I don't feel the need to delete it to rewrite history and make me look like a great guy. I don't care enough what other people think. Third, I'm English and spell things a certain way (which is immediately obvious to anyone using alternative spellings). Fourthly, as well as being English, I've been told that I have a certain writing style or quirk or just plain insanity. I have literal tics (for instance, I use the word "genuinely" too often).

In short, I couldn't hide if I wanted to. Luckily, I don't want to. If I've posted something and people guess it's me (Nora and Spacey are both good at it), I'm genuinely flattered. Damn, there I go with "genuinely" again.

I do completely understand your position. I really, really do. Despite being the polar opposite of you. I think I'm the weird one here and most people feel the same as you do.

Shall we correct the understatement?
*(Nora, Spacey, and the Red Army) you mean, right? Haha

Dearest Nora, when I think of you and Spacey collectively, you two *are* the Red Army. :P

Yes, indeed. Now which one of you is Stalin and which is Molotov? :P

We should find whoever thumbed down these comments and pitchfork them until they recite the Hail Mary prayer 666 times! >:)

I know right? Super annoying. I suppose that's just a side effect of the low number of active users on this site.

Yeah, but mainly the ItDuz thing. It's really annoying for some reason. Maybe because it doesn't contribute to the OP's question after they spent time typing it or it just got old quick.
Comment Hidden (show)
Personally I find it somewhat flattering when someone guesses that a story is mine.

I can see the point that the OP is making though. If somebody wants to get the general opinion of a topic, but don't want anybody to know what they did/thought/like, then they might get quite annoyed when they are called out.

As for me, if anybody thinks a story is mine, feel more than free to go ahead and call me out!

I've heard that you don't even have to guess, that some members know how to hack IIN and find out who the OP is for any story or poll.

You know too much.
Comment Hidden (show)
It is true. They use an iphone app or something like that. I heard you can no longer see who it is, though. Just the username color is visible now, I don't know how it all works. :\
Comment Hidden (show)
I can see why you would find this annoying if it were your story and you didn't want everyone to know, or if you didn't want people thinking some obnoxious story was yours. This is why, although I recognize people a lot, I don't say anything.

If I were writing a story that I didn't want to be attributed to me, though, I would be sneaky and alter the writing style.
Comment Hidden (show)
I've figured out a fair few. I don't generally post on the story who I think th OP is, though, because it's irrelevant.

I have worked out one person who then (not realising I already knew who they were) has given me a clue to find out who they were so I guess they were ok with it. I didn't actually name them on the story, though.

Oh and I named an OP in a recent post that didn't go through moderation, but that user posts their stories on their profile anyway, it's very obvious who they are and they generally respond without the anon option on their posts.

Also, sometimes when I stalk people's profiles, their stories are visible. I try not to let knowing who they are influence my response if it's a serious post, or mention who they are on the post either.

I doubt people have worked out who I am when I post stories, if they have I don't think I'd care.
Comment Hidden (show)
Nah. I think its fun only problem is I'm left out of it. :/
Comment Hidden (show)
Yes and No.
Comment Hidden (show)
I'm not that good at pointing out which users wrote which stories, so I don't do it... well, except for the "women bashing/men have it so hard" stories- those I almost immediately guess that they're written by ItDuz.
