I find it that more and more people are starting to say it makes them feel more uncomfortable then good that the other person seems to be actually paying attention. Why do people have a problem with that?

but I can't do it man!
it can't keep looking into someone's eyes while they talk for long.
paranoid for me O_o
i just look into their eyes, look away, look back, look away
lol and i really tried it to make friends and it made me more consious...Infact i think it feels more awkward n weird..to look into people eyes deliberately....just bcos u may seem uninterested But u r aware of the fact that u have to do this to maintain better relations....Its kinda unnatural ....doing it purposely..i think what matters is to be natural rather than showing your eyes like this O__O to people "Yes i m looking at you" haha
...It would feel like a psycho...what matters is to be natural and to genuinely take interest if you like the person...rather than faking which would make it awkward...
With all of these new inventions such as facebook, email, and text messaging, or way of communicating is becoming more and more virtual.
Nowadays if you want to tell someone something, you don't have to speak to them you can just type the words and they will read it. This can ruin social skills, as we forget how to really deal with people when its not in front of a screen (i.e. in real)
Often times people dont look others in the eye if they feel intimidated or have a lack of self-confidence.
I know I've done that before.
I'm probably stating the obvious...
The eye is the window of the soul, the mouth the door. The intellect, the will, are seen in the eye; the emotions, sensibilities, and affections, in the mouth. The animals look for man's intentions right into his eyes. Even a rat, when you hunt him and bring him to bay, looks you in the eye.
if im talking to someone i don't know very well then sometimes i feel awkward looking right at them so i tend to look away sometimes. on the other hand i always look a friend in the face..maybe not the eyes it could be a bit unnerving..
though when speaking to someone it looks rude if they are not looking at you, like they are not paying attention.
Check the attributes of some great historical figures for example...
I see them texting at crosswalks and run them over.
That's for friendly/casual stuff.
Business affairs I ALWAYS ALWAYS look in the 'ol peepers.
