I think it's pretty small minded to think that the world would be better off without religion. As if religion in and of itself is the problem.
Religion is just one of many modern catalysts that some use for the outlet of the negative points of their human nature. Power, money, greed, hatred... and religion is such one of many good catalysts to express it through. Without religion, we'd just find other ways to be pricks to eachother. I know Atheists that are just as good at being assholes as Christians are.
