My definition of large is more than 1800 sq ft/185 sq mt or more than four bedrooms.
My definition of small is under 1200 sq ft/111 sq mt.
I want something small. That way it's easier to pay off, has less room to accumulate junk, and it's cute. And by small I mean.. 117 sq ft. They're called tiny houses and you can build them on flat trailers and park them around the country. The legality is sketchy though... /cough
I would upgrade if I ever had children, of course.

At this point in my life, I'd like something a little bigger. Maybe a bigger lounge room - everythings so cramped. A bit bigger kitchen. Definitely a bigger bedroom, and two of them :P soooo....800ish square feet? I have no idea, I'm just putting in a guess. I'm shit with stuff like this. Fairly confident under 1000square feet would be ok with me.
With a courtyard. My balcony's small and blah. If I'm lucky enough to get my damn washing out at all, the rack takes up the whole damn balcony.
And if I'm pushing it, a study nook for my desk :P
Now if I had a family, that would be totally different. I wouldn't want anything huge, but I'd like my kids to have their own bedrooms, maybe a spare room as well, and I'd want two living areas rather than one. I kinda like the eat in kitchen, never had that growing up. And I'd want a yard. And a dog.
I feel a bit guilty now. I do roam around alone in a lot of space. Although I do pay a lot to do that.

I think I heard there was one in London you could rent for around $1 per night.
That said, I'd take a wood cabin situated on top of a hill overlooking town.
