My cats are horribly offended when I accidentally call them by the wrong name. They don't always choose to acknowledge me but they know their names. And if I want to bug them I call them "puppy." They hate being called "puppy."
I have two cats, they both know there names and come when I call them by name, if I say Kitty though, they both come. My dog, however, does not come when i call her real name, only by my cats names. Weird.
Pets may not be human but 1.Most{if not all} dogs will give there life you.You have to be really brave or straight out stupid to do that. 2.Acually 1. was mostly all of what I had to say.
i have five dogs and three cats and they perfectly know their names but sometimes, when I call one, they'll all come to me,(except for the cats) which is kinda weird at times and funny too.
MY cat seemed to know the sound of the can opener before anything else..she thought it was her name !! Cats train you to change your voice when you call them so that you sound very silly...and they enjoy that. If you call their names when you feed them..they soon learn. The cat is the master..You are the slave...secretly they all have very majestic names that they call themselves. Yhey also have names for you!! Ever wondered at the similarity of COW and Miaow ....or purrrr and Cur ...and there are a lot more cat swear words too...listen carefully when your cat calls you or mutters at you.
My two cats know their names, if you say Moo-Moo, she looks up and meows and Ebony looks up or comes over. Although I think they know more than just their proper names since I usually call them Ebsy-doodle and Mookle among other nicknames :P
Yes, my cat Menace will meow when I call his name, and he meows when I talk to him. He does not acknowledge me if I call him by anything other than his name.
If I say "Graay" I hear a chirp of a meow from him. If I say Princess she runs over!
They know!
My husband and I even taught them "SUPPER TIME" everytime we are going to give them wetfood in the morning and for dinner we say "SUPPER TIME" and they come running over towards the refrigerator looking for me with the can.
This is a lil old but I'll answer anway. Our ferrets all know their names. They come when we call them over. I'm gonna say no, the tarantula and the toads don't know their name. Oh, the snapping turtle doesn't know his name either. The sweetest thing ever is we just got a rescued dog a few weeks ago!!!!! Yay!!! I'm so friggin excited !!! She's awesome and she knows her name :)
My cat is brilliant and loves me. I treat him like a king and adore him. I don't care what he does really... I love him to death. He is my best friend. I'm a cat guy and he's been in my family since I was 8 and im now 19. I hope he still has another 10 years cuz if anything happens to that kitty I will be devistated...
I have a dog I call him 20 times and still don't come to me I have to get up and spank him and tell him to mined me so I go back in my room and call him again and still don't come I get up again and spank him again and I go back in the room and call him and he comes in he don't like to get spanked but sometimes I have to so he will come to me when I call him. I had the same dog for 9 yrs and I call him any names and he comes to me now
although my old fish use to get excited when i came around the tank...

Thankfully they aren't confused! O:

I agree with MissSorel too that they know nicknames. My cat's name is Cerberus, but I usually call him Cerby. He knows the difference.
