All trials except those run by the companies that make them have shown that they have no more effect than placebo. Therefore they do not work. That's it.
no. Obviously if someone takes them and believes they will work they will have a placebo effect. But there would be no difference to taking the anitdepressent and thinking that they will work to taking sugar pills that you think are antidepressents and thinking that they will work.
It's not really like that. When you start taking the drug it's like coming up on ecstasy. It affects the chemicals in your brain and it just stops you thinking all the time so it gives you a break from the bad things you think all the time thereby giving you room to get better. You can't really have an opinion on something you have never tried. It's ridiculous.
