The Chinese One-Child policy is still in effect, and will be for some time yet. Yes, the gender preference issue is somewhat of a problem, but is being resolved. The policy has been relaxed somewhat in some situations, and now applies to 35.9 percent of the population. It has, nevertheless been a success in raising prosperity and life-expectancy. Note that even though the policy has been in effect since 1978, the population of China is still increasing. I do not support an imposed policy, such as this. Instead I favour a voluntary reward type One-Child policy. I feel that we should act swiftly to change any existing laws that promote or reward people who decide to have large families.
I absolutely agree though it wasn't something I've thought about. I like the idea of rewarding those who limit their number of children - personally, I only have one, and think that's enough work for anyone!
Our benefit system is being 'milked' by those who have lots of children.

Great post, you've given me food for thought.
