I've been wondering how popular U.S. entertainment is in other countries. It seems the people on this site understand the references to American movies, music, and tv. Is there satellite broadcast of U.S. tv in your country? Do you see U.S. network news? Are American movies playing in the cinema? Are there a lot of album sales of American artist? Is it everywhere you turn or do you have to seek it out? How prevalent is it? When you comment please tell us where you live.

Absolutely no offense intended. :)
I can speak for the US, some of Europe and South America. I grew up in several cultures and in different countries, but the US was always the reference as far as entertainment goes. Not because it was my preferred culture/country, but because everywhere I went I had access to it, whereas access to those other cultural references in the US or other locations were extremely rare or even impossible to find. Whatever books, tapes, records, comic books I had, I would hang on to very dearly.
American culture has always been a dominant one, obviously because of its 'success' as a nation and economic relevance. So it's always been exported. If you ponder, cultural products are goods which are meant to be consumed. And there you go! The world consumes Hollywood, TV channels, record labels. Before cable and piracy, you had the movie theater (as public TV channels dub films and shows into the country's language), CDs, tapes, VHS, records, whatever. Now it's in your home 24/7, if you choose.
Ew, this is probably one of the most confusing and badly written posts I've attempted to make. I'm just posting it because of my fucking time! *hand over mouth* Oops, sorry. ;)
Yarr, mate!
I don't know much about this topic...
There. I said it.
Neither. Are you one of those options?
But we have to talk, Jonathan Kyle. Ever since you went gay with Parrish, you never even so much as looked at me. :/
Good to see you didn't leave on me. I thought i was going to have to beg queerrish to take me back. Ha
Last time we talked you tell me you're gonna do better, be more romantic, pay more attention to me, show me you really want this as much as I do... and what do you do? Just like a man!! (guess the Parrish thing didn't change you much). Forget about it the next minute! You don't speak to me for days, then you write me a cute little note and throw it in the trash. Can you explain why I found THIS in our trash Johnny? Am I not worthy of your love, hun?
Are you ashamed of me? Omg, that's it! Because I talk too loud when we're fighting? That's so easy to solve. Be good to me... *smile* :)
and ole' bear grylls are more than just friends like you claimed. And i guess queerish isn't strictly queerish huh? And i knew i should have burned that damn note, that's just like you snooping through my shit! I just can't put my heart out there for you to crush again. Oh, what am i saying, i can't live without you, you are my world, you give me purpose. When i see you smile it melts my heart...i..i..love you. And i want you back in my life..no, i need you in my life. Please baby don't do this to me...to us. I want to set a date for our wedding..no foolin this time.
Oh, IF you want to reply do it at the bottom. i can barely read this shit on my iphone.
Johnny? *lays hands on his folded arms at the bedroom door* When you saw me running around with flutterhigh, Bear Grylls, and queerish... we were doing a swimsuit relay race, silly! You have nothing to be jealous about, okay?
I love you, sweets. Meet you at the car? :*
Aww...
Hey, scoot over, make room for me. Me so sleepy. Let's just cuddle and call it a night...? *eyes-closed smile* :)
I'm sorry the swamp makes me bitter. Hahah
With the internet at least you can choose the quality stuff.
News: very little of it is American. You can get access to networks like CNN, but it's easier to find the big 3 UK stations: BBC News, ITV News and Sky News.
Music: Like with movies, I looked at the top 40 singles in the UK right now, and 20 of them were from American artists, and 10 from Great British artists. Others were from Trinidad & Tobago, Belgium, Jamaica, France, Sweden and Ireland. So I guess there's a lot of American music in my country, twice as much as music from artists from my country.
We can get a lot of American TV pretty easily as well, but we often have to wait ages before it gets shown here. Most people I know watch more British TV anyway for that reason. The very most popular reality shows here, like The X Factor, Britain's Got Talent, The Voice UK etc. are British shows.
I'd say we get a fair amount of American media here, but it's not so prevalent I feel like it's forced now my throat. There's almost always a good quality British alternative that is just as easy to get, in my view.
I would add that, although American entertainment is very popular here, us Brits tend to complain about the 'Americanisation' of our media, despite us 1) subscribing to it and 2) having -as previously stated- 'British alternatives'.
I know it's a rather sweeping statement, but that's my observation of it.
So yeah, I agree with what you say entirely.
That's intreresting about Mcdonalds. Thanks for that bit of knowledge.
Even in china i had 3 yank tv channels.
