Is it possible to be racist and be friends with people of other races?

Yes, especially if that person SHARES their views. Without giving "local" examples, e.g. there's black people that support the "White power" movement(few, but there are), etc...

Aside, even racists are not always completely stupid. They are very likely to acknowledge that individuals are not necessarily representing the whole. So even someone that hates asians with a passion, could gladly be friends with a person of asian descent that he grew up with.

It's hard to explain in short, but in summary: Yes, i can imagine several scenarios where this is possible. Matter of factly, i know some local ones.

I find your considered a racist if someone (usually a minority) is not getting there way or if you have more than they do.

I like your question about sexism. They can definitely do that. Men who whine about the friend zone are usually attracted to women. The same goes for women who constantly proclaim all men are cheating assholes.

Yes. I have been prejudiced in the past against non-autistics. I was still friends with non-autistics.

Of course. Just because they hate "race x" doesn't mean they won't hate "race y".


Some may even have a friend or two from the race they hate.

It could be somewhat like a 'beard' - a token friend who the person can use to claim they're not racist cos they have a friend who's that race.


Or... it's also possible the person isn't actually racist. Some people are biased against socioeconomic groups rather than race - but others often try assuming it means race anyway so that they may label that person as a racist ... often as an attempt to ignore that person's views.

It depends on how racist the person is, and the reasons for them being racist.

I've known of people who are 'racist' due to being very ignorant who've been friends with people from the same races they can't help but make offensive ignorant comments about. But someone who is actively racist then i'd think it sounds a lot more difficult.

It's totally possible, depending on what you would consider "racist". For example, being racist against black people could be "What a dirty, inferior race of animals" or it could be "Good athletes, they all can dance, but they tend to be dumb, lazy, and bad fathers". Both are racist and unhealthy, but one is pure evil and the other is dumb and offensive blanket statements drawn from the media and possibly personal experience. I think someone with absolute, pure hatred of another race could not possibly be friends with someone who belonged to that race (or religion, that garners a lot of hatred too). But most racist individuals I know are not actually awful people, but b/c of certain life experiences, they see the world a certain way that can sometimes offend others and not even realize it. I have two friends, one who is prejudiced against Germans (but honestly doesn't see it; they MUST be awful, damn Germans started WWII!) and another who is prejudiced against religious individuals (he routinely offends me as a Christian, and a Muslim friend, but has no idea he's being an ass; he thinks he is just being rational). Most of us like to believe we are open-minded, but in reality we all have prejudices we may not even be aware of. As long as we are able to grow up and re-evaluate our world view from time to time, these prejudices are not particularly harmful and make for great discussions :)
