Should this replace college degrees if it existed?

I feel school is stupid as hell and such a big waste of time. Sometimes I fantasize about a highly advanced machine that can probe a person's brain and determine exactly how fit they are for a certain career/job based on their knowledge/experience in it, rather then some college credits. The machine will print out an official statement sheet indicating the person's experience/knowledge level in that job (As well as any other career/job) and they can use that as a substitute for a degree.

Seriously, the school system is so flawed, and so much of what they require you to learn is hardly even useful for the real working world. The internet can many times, better educate people for the real world. There are even some people out there who don't have a college education but yet are more knowledgable then those who are college educated.

It would be so much more logical and convenient if this machine existed. What do you guys think?

Perhaps you should stay in school, attend University in Computer Sciences with the aim of specializing in Computer Interfacing, so that you can make this vision a reality in the future.

So your machine detects if a person is suited for a job, but how exactly have they attained the knowledge without studying it first?
To be efficient in a job you have to have a sufficient level of knowledge about it before hand--> degree

The person can be self - taught, learn from the internet, etc. Obviously it's not as easy as it sounds, but let's pretend it really was that easy.

That would be awesome.
Only a VERY small portion of what I know was actually learned at school and college.

There is one major problem though. It would have access to your memories in order to run the assessment, which could also be used by the operator to steal confidential information from you.

What I think is better is that each person should be assigned a job when they are young. They get trained up for the job since childhood. Once they hit the age to work, they go to work, but only if they feel ready to. This would give so many people guidance in life, and it would help people obtain a more stable life. Nobody would be thinking "Oh no, I don't know what I want to do in life", etc, because they would of already been assigned one.

It sounds very controling, but I think it would actually keep our species organized, and every job gets done.

Who decides?

Parents or Goverment (I think parents might be better), but there will be a very long list of available jobs, and they get to choose available ones.

Do you really think any parent is going to choose dirty jobs like cleaning public restrooms or septic service for their child when another job is available?

Mike Rowe would! :)

Some wouldn't, some might. Perhaps they can book jobs for children they plan on having on that year, that way the human population will decrease aswell due to peoplenot having children since there aren't a lot of available good jobs.

Some wouldn't go for it, but in the end, it would be a better job than many others.

I'm not sure because I could fake it through college, but not through a highly advanced machine.

Not a bad idea but that wouldn't be logical - Can't see that happening in reality.

Degree all the way as it's much more recognisable everywhere and you have it on a formal document as proof of your knowledge and success for life.

No. There's no need for imaginary machines. All they need to do is separate teaching form testing.

I think school should just be more like a trade school class. You learn only about what you want to do as career, fuck the useless classes you will not need for your job.

If you end up not liking your job, change course and do specifically related classes to your job.

Of course general knowlegde is always nice but for people who just want to get out of school and work, it would be great.

This is a great idea much like the Sorting Hat in Harry Potter. Study hard and make this a reality.
