What do you think of pet rats?

I have one (did have two but the other died :( )

Wonderful pets, clever, affectionate and often very funny. I kept mine in a cage to start but soon found it wasn't neccesary - they'll use a litter tray and dont make a mess. One did like chewing wires though so I had to keep cables out of reach.

They'd follow me andthe girlfriend around everywhere, and the one who's now died would sleep at the foot of our bed.

We trained them to do an obstacle course, fetch, and spin in circles on command.

They enjoy riding on shoulders and sleeping in pockets :D

I know I'm probably preaching to the choir here, seems there's a lot of rat-fans in this thread :)

It's good to let the rat rats run around your place, but you should keep it to one room and rat-proof the room + you should wait untill the rat is like 7 monts old and that its 100pct tammed. Then its prety much like a cat. Remember its much different to rat-proof a room with a girl rat >.<

Excellent, intellegent creatures.. Very fun to watch with no risk of disease like people fear.. Unless you found them in the sewer..

I have a pet rat and shes so cute... A bit annoying sometimes though but most pets are. People usually associate rats to sewers and therefore dont like them and think their gross but pet rats are clean and social :)

I had rats. But one lost the use of her legs and died while I was at school that was Nippy. BOO HOO! The other one was Poppins and she died of cancer. But they were great they brightened my darks days.

they should stop breeding rats because theyre over populated and its sad how people take advantage and use them for testing things... theyre really cute and not disgusting soo why do people hate them so much?? ANIMAL ABUSE!!!

Until they escape, hide in your cereal, escape again, burrow into the wall, get stuck and die. And then you have to knock out the wall to extract the decomposing carcass.

I think they stink- and who wants to be kept in a cage. But I have no disdain for them.

I had a rat. It was awesome. But. I didn't like how they always leave a pee/poo trail where ever they go. If they didn't do that, I'd for sure get another one, as a pocket pet.

I would never have a pet rat of my own, but if someone else wants one as a pet I wouldn't be against that at all.

They make wonderful and loving pets. I had one back in college, her name was Dodger.

I used to have some rats. they were cute but they poop too much.

They are so cute and smart! I had one that could climb stairs and the ones on my bunkbed and whenever we would tell him to go back up stairs he would listen haha but now that I think about him im getting a little teary lol.His name was Ralph and he was rat.

I have a pair named Pebble and Custard. They're honestly the cutest pets I've ever had.

I like the sound they make when my hat crunches on their skulls

I find rats creepy, iv seen too many movies where they're nibbling on dead ppl or whatev....
