For a 16 year old it's best to go to sleep at around 22:30 and to get up at around 7:30. This should allow her to be up in time for school and get about 9 hours sleep, which is what she needs.

If you are going to actually enforce a curfew on her, do it for weekday nights only. Leave the weekends to her.

When I was 16, I was very most a responsible kid - so whenever I was at a friends house, I had absolutely no curfew. My parents granted me the responsibility to decide for myself, and of course, being the responsible girl I am, I headed home at a decent enough time.

The latest I ever stayed out was two o'clock in the morning (on a Saturday of course), so it never conflicted with school, where I had to get up at 5:30 and leave at 6:30.

It's all a matter of trust and maturity.

I'm 18 and my parents don't set a curfew for me, but I say midnight for myself. Fridays and saturday, or days she doesn't have school- midnight. Sundays and school days- 9 or 10, depending on when her school starts. I like to get my rest before school.

11 is good because you got school tomorrow. Boy or girl, teenagers need their sleep.

My mom always explained the reason for my curfew which was ... if I wasn't home by 10pm she assumed I was in trouble and went to where ever I said I was going to look for me.
However, this involved the DJ at the local disco announcing that my mother was outside waiting for me, when the disco was extended to 10.30om!
I assume it's different now with mobile phones so I've allowed you an extra hour. Anytime, after dark you can meet weirdos and can get into trouble.

That must have been embarrassing.

I guess it depends on the neighborhood you live in. Whatever you choose, be sure to explain to your daughter why you want her in when you do. Also, don't forget consequences for coming home late or else it'll become a habit for her.

11, not because of trust, but because they need their rest.

If it is a school night I would say between 10-11 ish, however at weekends or school hollidays I would say maybe 12ish.

If it was my daughter the only conditions I would have is I would like to know who they are with, where they are and that they have a mobile phone on them with credit on.

My town has a driving curfew for people under 18. Couldn't drive between 12:30 and 5am, so that was mine.

I'm 18and in high school, my parents make my curfew 11:30.

where i'm at, nobody under 18 is allowed out after 12, or they will be picked up by the cops, so in that case, no later that 12, unless they're being drove by somebody at least 18. on school nights, i'd say ten, as long as her grades stay at least 3.0.

When i was 16 i was responsible i could come home at whatever time i wanted but id always call and make sure i was safe every few hours, not because my parents made me just so they wouldnt worry about me.
Latest ive ever been out was almost 2am.
You gotta factor in the time to get back home though.

When I was a 'responsible' 16 year old girl I knew how to set my own curfews. I understood not to be out too late due to whatever dangers the city brings and knew to go to bed early because I needed sleep to tay healthy. If that's not responsible I don't know what is.

If she's responsible... i'd say earlier than you'd expect.

9 PM on school nights, 10 or 11 on weekends.

after all if she's responsible she'll not be causing mommy and daddy any trouble over this in the first place

It depends where they are going and what time they are leaving. If its a dance since sometimes they go late 11-12 or whenever the dance ends. If it is hanging with friend I might say 10-11. If she is going to the movies it depends if its the late or early showing if its a showing after 6 I am going to say 11 unless the movie go’s later.

When I was 16 I had no curfew at all. One school days it was my responsibility to go to bed at a decent hour so that I could get up the next day. If I was too tired because I had been stupid enough to stay up too late then it was my fault, and I had to fix it. And on regular weekends 3 am. On some exceptional dates or special parties I could come back the next day for breakfast. Worked perfect for me. In fact I'm sure it helped me be more independent.

Probably 11 pm, but not on school nights. Other than that, there's really no reason a 16 year old should be out at midnight, or even passed 11 pm.

They have school dances. They also have movies and when they first come out might sometimes be a late showing. They also have party and sleepovers. They have a lot of things a girl in school could be doing. she is sixteen that means high school age. My prom dances went till 11-12 at night. She is 16 not five. I would say if it’s a ordinary day and nothing planned. I think maybe 5 I use to have to get home before dinner if I am just going to friends house. This is different if they are going out to concert or party.
