I agree that rap (some rap, mind you)is promoting terrible ideas, but they are not (literally) pointing a gun to anyone's head and forcing them to do what they hear and see.

But see, that's the thing that white people just can never understand. People that are really from the streets aren't anything like what is portrayed on T.V. So when white kids go out and try to emulate what a real gangsta's life is like, of course they get they dumb asses fucked up in the game somehow because they're living in fantasy land. The T.V. gangsta stuff that you see is the white man's idea of white life is like in the hood. Really, life in the hood can be wild but it can also be boring and whatever else - there are nerdy kids and loners and kids that are just not into selling drugs, etc. Then the kids that do sell drugs and whatever aren't always all thugged out, they just might hustle or whatever. And even the hustlers really ain't all outside waving guns around and doing crazy shit all the time - most of the time people chill. People usually get into it over personal beef, but even when it ain't about that, it's nothing like what you see on T.V. Oh, and motherfuckers go to jail a lot and die a lot so everyone pretty much grows up knowing it isn't glitz and glam, unlike white kids who don't know what it's like, then go and get involved (or try to and end up only being someone's fuckboy when they think they're actually friends) and end up looking dumb. so yeah. you feel me.
