Is It Normal?
What do you think?
Stomach Issues
I have a serious problem with my stomach. I have diarrhea about 4 or 5 times a day, and I refuse to go to the GI doctor to get a colonoscopy because I am petrified of getting that done. I think it is almost shameful to do it. The thing is, that I am afraid I may have some sort of cancer in my colon, and I am only 17. I realize that having this sort of stomach issues is not normal, but is it normal that I refuse to get the colonoscopy because I am afraid of other people finding out?

Please, do not make any snide or asshole-ish remarks but helpful feedback would be much appreciated

Get it Done!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope it is not pride that is keeping you from getting this procedure done. Especially at your age, you want this problem addressed and rectified immediately. I can imagine that you are pertified of having colorectral cancer, but early detection and treatment is key.

In reference of others finding out your problem, are you concerned of medical and health care staff discovering and discussing your problem? I work at a hospital, and to let you know, we are stricly bound by what is called a "Patient Confidentiality Agreement", stricly binding us to respect the value and privacy of patient's records and information. Under no circumstances are we to ever divulge patient information to anyone under any circumstances. Only pertinent staff will have access to this information in order to assess and plan a course of treatment for the patient. This applies in all hospitals in Ontario, Canada, and I would imagine the same for other provinces in Canada, throughout the US, and in health centres around the world.

I imagine your family is supportive of you, and in my opinion, I feel you should not disappoint them by not getting this prodecure done, particularly if your life is threatened. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Your trepidation is not at the procedure itself, but rather is directed at what at this point is imaginary peer pressure. You must realize that whatever “embarrassment” that you feel will manifest, will eventually pass. You will survive both socially and physically. If you do not seek medical advice, and you do have cancer, you will not survive period. For what it is worth, I sincerely doubt you have colon cancer. With that said, your frequent bouts of diarrhea do need to addressed by a physician.

Go to the doctor. Colonoscopy probably won't even be necessary.

But would you really rather die than take the risk that someone might find out that you had a perfectly normal and common medical procedure?
DEAR FRIEND, I HAD ONE DONE, IT WAS FINE(I DIDN'T EVEN TURN GAY). IT WAS LIKE A JOURNEY OF SELF-DISCOVERY VIA THE ANUS.
I HAD A RECTAL POLYP THE SIZE OF A GRAPE, AND ALMOST EVERYTIME I PASSED "ONE" IT FELT LIKE SOMEONE STABBED ME WITH A RAKE.
DON'T BE SUCH A TWIT, GET SOME HELP BEFORE YOUR INSIDES COME OUTSIDE.

Doctors are quite used to seeing anuses, and penises, and testicles, and vaginas. They know they exist, and they don't giggle about it; they simply see them as part of being human. The doctors will help you when you go to the hospital, and they won't be bashful when you use words like "diarreah," because they're so familiar with the human body. It's great, really, to know that there are people that mature.
DONT DO IT!
