Just like anyone else. It's often fun to go along with their delusions, or maybe say something that will make them all paranoid and come after you with a knife. All in fun, right?
I lived with one for 4 years, and all I can say is keep a level head!!
Of course, the schizophrenic I lived with also had bipolar and did cocaine every day we were together......hopefully your situation isn't anything like mine was!
here's my story...my best friend and I met at a psych hospital 2yrs ago.Since then, in feb.14,2006-He flipped out thinking his father and brother were going to kill him so He shoots his brother and spent 10 months in jail. In dec.2006-He gets bailed out and placed on a ankle bracelet, yet all the while, we smoked pot and drank. OK, now He went a got a 16-yr old skanky-ass b**ch in march to move in with us. SHE convinced him to run and flee last sunday(may 20TH)and now he's back in jail. I have to help him get out of this mess. I love him as if he was my little brother. tell me what i should do~!!!!!!!!
i dont know if you can tell him to plee insanity..it may work/ may not. if he does this he would have to spend a few months in an institution and get on some meds if he is not on them already. they will turn him into a human guinea pig to try and find the right kind of meds and the right dose. but he should be on them if he wigs and tries to shoot people. he wont get any help in jail, at least try t represent him or get someone to .. you could even try to get him legally declared incompetent....it might just work.
I have had experience with a few people close to me that have mental disorders. Some people want to make jokes and laugh about it, but obviously they dont have a clue.Bi-Polar manic depressives can be unpredictable at times. All any mental disorder is,is a chemical imbalence in their brain. The meds that are prescribed to them only counteract the deffiencies they have. From what i have been through it is when they stop taking their meds because "Their feeling better." is when their system crashes.A so called Mental disorder,I believe is truly physical because of the fact that the brain is an organ just like the Heart,Liver,Kidneys, etc. Most any physical ailment can be treated with meds.I do agree that Mental ones are harder to deal with.Just remember that its not really their fault and be as tolerant as possible.
thank you for the positive feedback from mischiefairy, stargirl, and psychoDJ.GOD bless you 3. I myself have LOTS of issues, mentally. I was diagnosed as BI-polar and truly understand that this is just like having a physical diease.I fight with myself trying to hold on to what little sanity i ever had and try to stay in reality...although I feel like I'm fighting a losing WAR!!!!!!!!
Bi-Polar disorder is more commen then most people think. You are not crazy, nuts, loony, or anything like that. You have a treatable dissorder. It is a chemical problem in the brain that can be controlled with meds as long as it is watched closly. As your body gets older and changes, the type and dosage of meds changes also.Remember that its always there but it can be controlled.Best of luck to you.
