Don't join, and don't believe ANYTHING a recruiter tells you. They have tough quotas to reach and will tell you whatever you want to hear in order to get you signed up. Unless you really want to risk your life in a war that has nothing to do with protecting our country I'd suggest you consider something other than the military, especially the army.
