New Schools
Our teacher pulled out an article from a long time ago about changing styles of schools these days. it says that there is this school in Massachusetts that lets kid do what THEY want to do. It says that if the kid feels like leaving the campus to go fishing, he/she can. If the kid feels like shooting some hoops then he/she can do so. But it is up to the kid to decide when is right to learn something he/she wants to do. So the basic premise of the whole thingis that, the teen/kid decides what they want to do in life. The school encourages special activities/trades that interests all types of people and when the kid is ready to learn, the school has teachers readily available to teach the kid. These schools stress that the "assembly line" learning is not the way to go. Assembly line learning is like take this class, then go to the next and so on and so on. That kind of way in my view only daunts the student more. I believe in this system because it helps the student figure out who and what they want to be in life instead of take this test tuesday, go to math today and sh*t like that, you know!
The only real bad thing about it, in my view is social skills. I mean schools today are good for social interaction. But the new schools let the kid do whatever they want. It is also bad because the student has no incentive to do anything, so they could spend all their teenage years there without doing a damned thing.
But scores on tests are better there than regular schools and more kids go on to college to learn a trade and become successful.
So is it normal to agree with these standards? Anyone agree with me?
My advice; don't fix something that isnt broken
