I am pushing 60,, and start a new course, in three weeks. I have taken courses, off and on, for about 40 years now. I love to learn, and will stop, shortly after cremation,,,,( I want to study the crematorium, before I lie down in something dirty,,,)

I'm 21 and just started going to classes for a new degree. I went before and I was 18, but I dropped out because I had no clue about my actual goals. I worked for a couple of years to do some soul-searching and finally decided to go back. In the first week I felt far more confident and motivated towards my goals then the last time I went. So yes, it's perfectly normal for people around our age to start college. And besides, two or three years of waiting to start school doesn't make much of a different later down the road. It's better to wait until your certain than rush into a career being uncertain.

people start it all different ages. people leave school for awhile and come back. i went to college at 18 but wasn't ready for it. i graduated, but i don't think i got nearly as much out of it as i could have. now i'm going back with a much better attitude. i think maybe i should have chilled for a few years after high school, taking random classes and figuring stuff out like you!

You're never too old to learn. Like Sisophous said, don't worry about the age thing. just don't give up - you'll make it. hang in there.

Don't worry about your age when you begin college. Life is not a race although society tries to leave that impression upon us and put unnecessary pressure upon the young.

What you are doing is not a question of being normal or abnormal, rather about being common or less common. In your case it is less common than the majority of those who attend college and is no big deal.

Lets arbitrarily imagine your retirement from the workforce will be at age 60. Let's also say you graduate at age 26 and find work by age 27. You then work for 33 years before retireing. While others, who did not miss any time, graduate at age 22 and work for 38 years if they retire the at the same time.

You working 33 years versus some working 38 years, now does that really make any difference'

Life is not a race and those who choose to make it so are often the most unhappy and unfulfilled over time.

Have no regrets, just look forward and enjoy yourself as much as possible.
