You story is not that unusual. Relationships over time tend to be a lot of work and if you are with the wrong person, it can seem like everything you do is either a hassle or an ordeal. They also require a lot of sacrifice, give and take to keep them going. The key is to find someone who shares a lot in common with you, both interests and the same type of demeanor. If you are an introvert, you don't want to be spending time with someone who is extroverted and vice versa. Look into finding a girl who is independent, low maintenance and who is not needy or clingy. From your story it sounds like this is the type of girl you would enjoy being around.
