I'm 26 and when I think of my 12-year-old niece doing ANYTHING like that it just makes me sad. No it's not normal, but also remember that sex is being incorporated into their world at a MUCH younger age than it was when even people our age were young. They think it's something they should do and since nobody is stepping up to the plate to say "No, this is not appropriate for someone your age, and this is why..." they are. What it comes down to is that parents need to be parents and not put off sex-ed on teachers. Otherwise they come to me when they're in trouble either with an STD or pregnancy, and then as a nurse I get to explain to them and their families why these things happened.

And yeah, my parents were always up front about these things -- they taught me about sex when I started getting curious about these things, but they also warned me against trying anything when I was still young. They put the fear of God into me, and I thank them for it. I've had a happy, free life without babies or regret.

I agree that girls are starting too young, BUT so are boys. When I was 12, I'm 15 now, I would not engage in any sexual intercourse- only oral sex. That way I knew I wouldn't get pregnant and ruin my life.
