Is It Normal?
What do you think?
boss inviting me for cocktails?
well for some reason this question isn't listed anymore, but it's still in my options thing. So I'm posting it again because I would like to hear more feedback, I've gotten some good feedback so far.

Hey, I'm wondering if this is something normal or if I should be creeped out. I'm not very experienced in the working world. And I have a terrible radar for telling if someone's attracted to me.

So my old boss is a family friend who I've known for a long time. He has a wife and a kid. I'm a 20-year-old who used to work for his company. I haven't worked for him for a year, but this summer when I moved back he invited me out first for coffee, just to have a chat and catch up on things. And he's a cool guy, we talked about all sorts of things, I guess he enjoys talking to me. A month later he invited me for a beer to do the same. And now he's inviting me for c*cktails, just with him. Now, he hasn't made any advances, at least as far as I know. See the problem is that I don't have a very good radar for flirting. That is why I'm posting here. I really would like to think that this is not the case. But why cocktails? Isn't there an old cliche about the boss wanting to have cocktails with the female employee or something? I just feel really weird going for cocktails with my 40-year-old boss.

Hmm. Don't know why. Anyway.....
Do you go in separate cars? Picks you up in his car?
Is it a local bar where he knows people there? or not?
How does he touch you? Like before or different now?
Does he talk about anything sexual?
How does he contact you to meet?
How many times have you been out with him?
On specific days, evenings or times?
Do you know his wife or ever speak to her?
Ask him this- Does she know that he's out with you?
How does he say goodbye or goodnight?
hey!
i commented before! i would say it's best just not to go...make up an excuse, things could get funky.

My radar tells me that too. It doesn't sound on the up and up to me. If he's an old family friend who you've known for years, you should be able to visit at his house, with his wife and kids there.
Cocktails you say? Maybe he wants a 'long slow screw up against the wall'.
Hey, don't blame me! Its a cocktail!
Sounds fishy to me . . .
You should not be going out for cocktail "date" with a married man.
also...
why blank out cocktails? thats plain silly!

its me again, the original poster, and i didn't blank out cocktails, it does it automatically. and yes it is silly. and in case anyone's wondering, i haven't responded to my boss's email asking me out for cocktails. thank you everyone for shedding light on this for me.
COCKTAILS?! Language, now...
Did he wink and raise his eyebrows up and down rapidly upon uttering the word "cocktails"?
Satan

If he still controlled your paycheck, then go ahead and "go out" with him. Now the only thing he can offer you is an STD.
