Your situation is quite common. People make friends over time, it does not usually take place suddenly. When you transition from one school to another, the contacts you had are not as strong when entering a new atmosphere. Friends that you found to be close are tempted to look to making new friends that may cause them to distance themselves from you. In addition, if you selected a group of people for friendship, they may be alienated from others, hence it would make sense for people to distance themselves from you by simple association.

I would not worry about this at all. Almost anytime someone changes schools it is a difficult change at the outset. This is why parents seldom choose to relocate while their children are established in a school system and they refrain from moving. They know it can be unsettling to their kids.

If people make fun of you, it is best to avoid them, have little or nothing to do with them. These people are not true friends, do not follow the crowd or succumb to pier pressure.

Being popular is not necessarily a good thing, the most miserable people I have learned often tend to be the most popular, they just conceal their real feelings, their real situation but eventually they have to confront reality. Don't try to follow them, copy them, or look for their acceptance.

Just be yourself.

It takes time to establish a footing in a new school. Anyway you might need to revise your main reason of going to school, which I'm pretty sure is to get an education.

About the popular kids laughing at you because you might decide to hang with the "weridos" is fucking stupid. You shouldn't do things according to what others see "fit" but what your heart tells you.
