Shivering
The other day a friend of mine started shivering uncontrollably in the middle of school. He said he felt cold, and he was wearing a t-shirt and it was cold out, but not that cold. Someone gave him a really really warm winter coat but he still continued shivering. We made him go to the school nurse, but he insisted it's no big deal and that this has happened to him before. We made him go anyways and she sent him home.
At home, he was talking to me on the phone and he felt very light-headed and sleepy. I asked him how long he's had this happening, and it seemed like a long time because he couldn't answer, but he did say that last time this happened was about a year ago.
My first thought was diabetes, and he later told me that his mom has it.
Could it be diabetes? If it's not, what is it? Or perhaps this is just something normal and not a big deal?

You can get the SHAKES if your blood sugar goes too LOW. But you don't feel cold.
I don't ever recall shivering and being cold as a symptom of diabetes. It could be that he is getting sick as Violent10 pointed out.
But of course we are not doctors here. Your friend should see a pro for help. Probably the flu or something of that sort.
There are many possibilities, but he really should be seen by a doctor to make that determination, particularly if this has happened before. My first thought when I read this was "opiate withdrawal" because everything you describe here is consistent with the symptoms. However, if you are sure he's not a drug user, then the answer lies elsewhere. I hope he'll make an appointment soon.
Or if he is getting the flu, or a cold. I could have been the chills. If he had a fever it makes sense.
It could be diabetes if he is thirsty alot, but his water has to be ice ice cold. Do his toes go numb. If he feels faint after not eating for a few hours... then it could be diabetes. Idk im not a doctor.... get a blood test.
