While I don't generally advocate physical punishments for kids, particularly those over the age of about 10, you really should try to put yourself in your mother's shoes. What you did violated the law, was potentially dangerous, and put her in a possibly liablous situation. Had you been in an accident, without either a license OR insurance, whom do you think would have been stuck with the VERY hefty fine and the repair costs?

At the VERY least, you could have contacted your mother from school to let her know what you had done, yet you failed to even make that one small effort to ease the situation somewhat. The overall impression I get here is that you don't follow the rules at home in general because you feel you have grown beyond them, and your parents should just get off your case.

Well, I have news for you. As a minor living under their roof, your parents are responsible for your welfare. And YOU are responsible for following the rules of the house. Unless your parents are clearly violating the law in some way in their parenting, then it is your luck, good or bad, to deal with the situation until you are old enough to move out on your own.

I think that if you try reporting your mother's behavior as "child abuse", you will be very much disappointed. In California, the CPS will only monitor a family situation or remove a child from a home if there is very clear evidence of abuse. They are quite accustomed to getting complaints such as yours and unless your mother left physical injuries or there are others who can corroborate prior abuses, your claims will do nothing but embarrass you and your family.

I hope you'll try to look at this situation from both points of view and also try to come to a peaceful settlement with your mom. And NEVER again consider "borrowing" the car like this, for your own sake and for the sake of the rest of your family.
