Ha; no, you get a reprieve! I have the same problem, only mine is fairly constant. It's called tinnitus. There's plenty of information on it on the internet; it can be caused by many things including medications, earwax, ear infections, and low serotonin levels.
If there's no pain, discharge, or pressure, and it eventually passes, it's probably nothing to be concerned about. However, as with all matters of a physical nature, it's best to consult your doctor if the problem persists.
As one poster pointed out it could be tinnitus. However, tinnitus (tin-eye-tuss) usually refers to a chronic problem where an individual has this ringing in their ear for life or for extended periods over their lifetime.
Ear ringing noises are common. Usually are temporary. Allergies, viruses and exposure to loud noise levels can also cause this.
I once had ringing in my left ear for TWO WEEKS straight. Low level, but nagging. I saw a specialist and wouldn't you know on the day of my appointment it stopped! He checked me out totally and told me all of the things I and the previous poster mentioned.
Now and then I still get it but it goes away (knock on wood) after a very short time.
I find that if I can "pop" my ears (half yawn) it helps clear it up. Doing this helps open your eustachian tubes which are canals that run from you throat to your inner ear. They help equalize pressure, etc. Mine sometimes react to allergens etc. at times and swell up a bit giving that stuffed ear feeling. This can lead to a mild ear ringing.
Don't worry. If it should persist for a long time. See your doc.
Damned thing about my tinnitus. It will last for weeks, even a month or more. Then I'll see the doctor, and wham! It goes away within a day or so -- at least temporarily. I'm starting to think I'm seriously mental.
I even went in to have my hearing checked because I was having a combination of the usual screeching AND roaring/booming sounds -- quite a cacophony. I was amazed when the results came back that I actually had extraordinarily good hearing. Hard to fathom since I don't know how I can hear ANYTHING through all of the din; LOL. (Also, I haven't been able to pop my ears for MANY years. Apparently, this is isn't going to change; my bad luck.)
Damned things either put me to sleep, give me stomach cramps, or do nothing whatsoever. It comes and goes, so I just look forward to the times it isn't active. At night, I'm advised to operate one of those white or ambient noise machines to drown out the sounds. Unfortunately, I have a high strung personality so I'm apt to be bothered by things that other people tend to take in their stride, like this. Sucks to be me; LOL :-)
