Young people should be at the forefront of the fight against HIV and Aids.

Teenagers and young people from across the world were at the event, which marked World Aids Day.
Speakers included those working to tackle the spread of HIV in Africa, along with members of the Terence Higgins Trust. The conference took place just days after new statistics showed there were 345 new cases of HIV identified in Scotland alone last year. Across the UK young people account for 11% of all diagnoses of HIV. And 6,000 young people worldwide contract the virus every day, with 15 to 24 year olds
making up the fastest growing group of infections. Emma Laverie, the Scottish Youth Parliament's development officer said: "It's time to talk frankly about HIV and Aids. Infection rates are on the rise in this country and young people are especially at risk. We need to work to reduce HIV in the UK and the best way to do this is to make sure young people are at the forefront of this effort."
John Loughton, the chairman of the Scottish Youth Parliament, said: "HIV infections are rising and many of them are among young people under the age of 25.If that is not a call to young people to be leading the fight against HIV and Aids, I don't know what is." He continued: "With 6,000 young people contracting HIV every day it is vital that young people from around the UK push for change. There is still a real stigma
surrounding HIV and Aids in many parts of the world. We need to challenge this with youth led, positive action."

MANY YOUNG PEOPLE AGE 25 AND YOUNGER ARE ENGAGING IN RISKY
SEXUAL BEHAVIOR PLUS THEY ARE
TAKING RISK EXPERIMENTING WITH
USING NEEDLES TO SHOOT UP DRUGS
WITH , SOME TIMES THE NEEDLES
ARE SHARED AMONG MANY YOUTHS .
YOUNG MEN AND YOUNG WOMEN ARE
GIVING THEIR SELFS TO PEOPLE
THAT THEY HARDLY EVEN KNOW THEN
THEY ARE STRICTING WITH HIV AND STD'S DISEASES , ALSO, SOME
CONTACT HEPATITIS -C WHICH INCURRABLE .. ALL YOUNG PEOPLE
WHO READ THIS , PLEASE THINK TWICE WHO YOUR PARTNERS ARE ..
PLEASE CONSIDER TWICE BEFORE TAKING RISK .. ALSO, MAKE SURE
YOU HAVE PROTECTED SEX , GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
yeh, fucking yeh, youth unite. this shit is so lame, its almost like they're passing the buck COMPLETELY to a generation which has practically no power in this world. Fucking hate it when they go on about this shit asthough any kid will solve the worlds problems. "Leading the fight against AIDS"? WTF! It should be the people in the fucking hospitals, research centres who are leading the fight, course we can stop ourselves from gettin it, but then there's the other 70% of the population.

But when you really think about it, the under-25 crowd really ARE the ones who should be most concerned about getting and transmitting the virus, because they're generally the ones who are most sexually active. And if all it takes is either abstinence or the use of a condom to significantly reduce the spread, why is this so difficult?

You're right; this problem didn't originate with the current generation, and perhaps it seems unfair that this generation is stuck with having to take additional precautions. But before HIV, it was herpes. And before THAT, it was (and still is) gonorrhea, syphilyis, chlamydia, HPV, and so on. Anyone who is sexually active should consider their risks in contracting these diseases, particularly if they have multiple partners. It's just a fact, like it or not. Asking the medical professionals to fight the battle for us really seems to be passing the buck if we have the power to stop these diseases on our own.
Africa should be shut down and blocked off from the rest of the world so they can all give aids to one another and die. People in the real world need to stop banging 200 people before they get married and start to have a little respect for them self. Aids will never just go away until they get a cure because all young people want to do is go out clubbin and get has drunk and high has possible then sleep with who ever they can then brag about it to their friends. The world is going in the shitter.

:), "helpful"
lmao. Well, only if you don't heed the advice! You're ok.
My intention here footfan, isn't to "pass the buck" but enlighten you guys as to the PROBABILITY that you will inevitably get HIV if you all persist in having UNPROTECTED sex. Where your generation has it's chance to correct the omitions of mine by NOT having unprotected sex and spreading the disease.
It is a matter of FACT that for every diagnosed case of HIV, there are AT LEAST 3 others with it who are UNDIAGNOSED and you risk screwing one of them before your 25th birthday. I want to help make you AWARE of the risk. I don't want to stop you enjoying sex but unfortunately you CANNOT tell who has HIV by looking. Thats the biggest difference between HIV and the rest of the STD's out there. If this post stops just one of you getting it, then thats a job well done by me.
I personally hope you never ever get it but the probobilty is that you will get at least one STD and that could well be the worst one, HIV.
16 to 25 year olds are the biggest AT RISK group and the BIGGEST group with STD's. Thats a matter of fact. Sorry if this is news to you. I don't make the facts, I am merely passing this one on.
@: nearly
yeh, im not saying that our age group isnt at risk or that we shouldnt be 'fighting' it. I just dont like it when (like many other things) they say it is the youth of today which will fix the problem. Just feel that the people with the power should just knuckle down and fight it, rather than have these huge events and ask for community spirit and all that bullshit. Just my opinion, but i think there's a difference between ordinary people fighting it, and people with the REAL power fighting it.
Being absolutely realistic about it footfan. They can throw all the money in the world at it mate, if we, the people who are having sex, don't wrap up, they ain't gonna stop it are they. Not until those who are sexually active accept THEIR responability is it worth spending serious money on it.
So they will continue to try to get "us" to address our responsibilities first, and we have to rise to that challenge.
