I think his movies function not as documentaries but as works of art made to incite anger at him or the targeted establisment and feeling, as well as spur intellectual discussion about the faults of the country. I think it is necessary in a society where people follow and don't think for themselves.

Well, I'm going to try to strike a middle ground here, if that is even possible.

When I see a "documentary", I want to see something that presents an unbiased picture (at least from the camera's view)of the topic, in extensive detail, as perceived by people who are intelligent enough to analyze and discuss the topic. Michael Moore gets it half right. As Potato says, his movies function less as documentaries but more as works of art made to incite anger at him or the targeted establishment, as well as to spur intellectual discussion about the failings or inadequacies of our various institutions.

I am just not particularly interested in seeing a documentary that presents a view that is primarily Michael Moore's. I'm sure he has some legitimate arguments, but he's twisted and distorted the truth so many times in his films that it's almost impossible to respect his work. In fact, I won't watch his stuff any more -- I gave up after Bowling for Columbine. I feel that he manipulates rather than educates, and that is the one thing I cannot forgive in a "documentarian."
