When we were kids our parents though the rock and heavy metal we used to listen to was seriously satanic and advocating murder and suicide. Maybe they did turn it up a bit to try and sell a few more albums through shock value but people who paid more attention could always catch the real message or the ironic tone of those songs. Sometimes the lyrics are more raw today, but realize that when the kids that listen to that stuff are our age they'll be sitting around talking about the irony, the cleverness and interesting idological allusions just like we do over our old rock.

Oh, and were the Spice Girls ever really that popular? I would hardly consider them classics.
