Is It Normal?
What do you think?
Spelling
Why do people get so uptight about the spelling used in these posts. I mean if someone genuinelly is in distress and wants help; do you really they are going to sit and ponder and compare their questions spelling a grammer with the fundamentals of the english language?

If it is a fake post it can be credited to the person just being over excited at typing something "naughty" on the internet.

Theres no standard to keep on this web site because, there are so many stupid stories on the site people will make their own judgement. So to turn this into a proper question, is it normal to think that people who will drag a persons spelling skills into making judgement about the person and also turning the original topic into a debate about language use, are wasting their time.

umm i think i have ridiculed a few people because of spelling errors on here. But only if its so bad i cannot understand what the hell the story is even about. i mean its pretty freaking annoying. If you are so horrible at spelling that the story just looks like jibberish then dont post a damn story!!!
I find it very distracting when people have excessive misspellings. It is sometimes so bad that I completely miss the point of their post. One or two I can deal with, but when just about every other word is misspelled it just starts to piss me off. I realize people aren't perfect, but they should really try to make more of an effort.

thank you
for the intelligent answers

It doesn't bother me, but misspellings and lack of puncuation make the person seem unintelligent. And I know that's not always true. That's just what it gives off.
I don't mind when a person makes the odd spelling mistake, but it does make them look unintelligent.
I do hate it when a person doesn't even put a PERIOD(.)at the end of every sentence.I don't even bother to put a comment if I can barely read the story.
i know what you mean, when people spell something wrong the only comments people put is about the spelling error, and if the person needs help the last thing they want is the p**s tacken out of them, as long as it is readable i don't mind but if it's like this "gr8, lyk, nm" that gets on my nerves, but some people could have problems so you could be taking the p**s out of somone with a disability! that must be good for their self asteem! ive most definatly made some spelling mistakes myself in this post but that's because it's about 10:00pm and i'm tired! anyway, there is no need to point out peoples spelling ot gramma mistakes.

I hate seeing the English language mutilated in such a lazy fasion. However, if you want to be a lazy bastard, I'll stand out of your way.
It's pretty simple, really.

Person A wishes to pass information to person B. A does this, by putting that information into a sequence of words which we call "language". Each word, in it's place, means a certain thing, so B can read them, decode the meaning, and know what A wanted to say.

Now, this time, we have person X and person Y, and again, X wants to pass information onto Y. This time, however, X makes NO ATTEMPT to put that information into a form Y can understand. X mixes words around, spells things wrong, substitutes symbols, and pretty much garbles every idea he's trying to pass along. By the time this information is passed to person Y, there is no way whatsoever for Y to know what X is on about. Even if Y THINKS they know what X mean, they can't be sure; X might've give them the wrong idea.

THAT is why we get uptight about spelling. If you want me to answer your question, you better damn spend a couple minutes reading it to make sure it's written in some recognisable form of English.

I mean, sure, there are people for whom English isn't their first language, or have genuine problems with writing, or the majority of us who simply make mistakes and typos sometimes. But there's also a large and growing number of people who clearly just don't give a damn, and I'm sorry, but I'm not going to waste my time pulling out the dumb-to-English dictionary for those people, especially given those people are *asking me for help*.

Remember; write English the way the language is taught, or im not goin 2 red ur prblm, k thnx bye!!!!!11
Ya Betta Recognize
I also hate written slang or Leet speak (computer-geek dialect, search it in wikipedia for a complete history). At the same time it is important to recognize that Leet has set rules, designed with the SPECIFIC purpose of alienating and pissing off those who cannot read it. Much of what we see in these boards (of the joke kind) is Leet, so when someone says "fuck you I don't understand it" the author would have most likely achieved his goal.

There might be one more reason for spelling mistakes, you don't feel like reviewing. Incidentally, I shall invoke that excuse now, so pleased excuse errors.
