I have very mixed feelings about what you've just said here and would like to comment on your observations.

I could not agree more that racism is a real problem on this site. However, the bigger problem seems to be trying to tell the difference between "real" racism and social satire and/or people acting in character for the purpose of inciting a little controversy. Frankly, it's not my style to adopt the persona of a "pretend" hater of ANYONE. I find it objectionable but for a lot of the membership, it seems to be a harmless way of venting negative energy.

It is for this reason that I tend to be cordial towards folks like Pooly and Uni, at least most of the time. It's gotten to be a bit much for me lately, though, as the number of racist posts has increased, and I've been vocal about my distaste.

So once again, while I do support your efforts here to fight racism, I think we need to find a better way to go about it. This site really isn't about sensitive, thought-provoking debates on vital issues. If enough people want to shift the balance to such topics and more intelligent responses, though, then maybe the other "stories" on penis length, incest, and racial intolerance will lessen. But honestly -- I seriously doubt this evolution will be occurring any time soon.

As stated earlier, I would not personally create a racist character. There is enough anger and hatred in the world already that I see nothing to be gained in manufacturing more of it via internet memes. However, there can be an awfully thin line between edgy social satire and racism, particularly when it's expressed solely in writing. That's where the dilemma lies. Whom to believe, how much to believe, and when to say "enough"?

For me, at any rate, the the answer to the last question is "enough is NOW." I've been posting here for nearly four months and seen a gradual decline in the posts so that at least 20 percent of them now address the topic of race in an extremely derogatory manner. I'm fine with the fact that the world has racists; I'm also fine that they be given a forum to express their views, however distasteful they may be. But where are we to go from here? Do we ignore it, or do we fight back and try to bring some balance to the current situation?

I find nothing to be gained in commenting on threads posted by racists any longer, and I would suggest that others who are similarly concerned avoid them as well. To do so is to enter a race-baiting, name-calling free-for-all -- there is no rational discussion to be had, so there's no point in making the effort to reason with these folks. Visiting their threads only serves to create more threads. I entered this one only because I have some empathy for Knuck and could see that he was getting his ass kicked, so I got a little indignant about it.

I encourage your further thoughts on the subject. Perhaps some threads on more uplifting topics, at least once in a while, might be helpful. I mean, not that I don't LOVE all of the useful information on scabby penises, diseased vaginas, and incest. In fact, given the current climate, ANY of that would be preferable to the rampant racism we've been seeing lately ;-)
