Is this normal: I am in grade 12, and alot of kids in my class take uppers and perscirption drugs like ritalin to stay awake to study and get good marks. i asked my older sis about this and she says people in college do this all the time. is it normal, or even encouraged, do take drugs to get better marks? I am in an honours program, so do i need to do drugs to get good marks to get scholarships?
If you're in the honor program I would think that you have been already been considered for some scholarships that are sponsored by your community . . . But don't forget you should be researching and applying for outside scholarships too.
And if you ever think you need the pills you do because you are stupid to think such a thought. Does that make sense?
You're clearly a smart kid. I wouldn't worry about drugs at all.
My father is a doctor and he told me in med school lots of people used these drugs. They do help your concentration significantly. My friend who is getting his masters in Physics uses them when he really needs to study.
That said, they all eventually burnt out. If you get good at things naturally, you can go as far as you want. If you dope your way through university, it's my experience that you completely fall apart in about your third year. So as long as you don't plan on going farther than that, you're fine.
You can improve the quality of your life and your ability to concentrate by taking care of yourself (eating healthy, getting adequate sleep, exercising daily, drinking lots of water, etc). Please consider investing your time and energy in the list I have provided above instead of investing your money in drugs.
