Black history month is just another story of political correctness run amuck. If kids in school have to celebrate the history of one race for an entire month only hearing about the achievements of that one single race then its unfair to not give every other group in America their own history month so the kids can learn of the hard work done by Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans and most importantly European Americans Ect. I say give no group their own month and learn history for what it is and not make a big deal about some claim that a black guy invented penut butter.

I personally don't know if we should have black history month only because it still allows white people to look like racist bigots, but I do think a lot more black history should be in those very same text books that we learn american history from. Martin Luther King Jr. may not have been perfect, but without him our world would probably be a wasteland, because we would have had an all out war. Ok so let's see we have Presidents' day, which was actually suppossed to be the day that celebrates George washington, as he was the first president, but now this holiday is used to celebrate all the past presidents (whom are all white). Columbus Day is used to celebrate Columbus obviously, but he didn't even discover america so that's still two white men against one black man that actually earned their own holiday. I think with all the heartache, and suffering the generations of black people have had to face, we can atleast give them that.

We don't have that holiday here so I can't really comment from experience of the holiday. However, I think I can speak from the British perspective in so far as, should it ever be decided we should have it, it would be devisive. I can't see any way this sort of thing is going to enhance race relations. By it's very nature it is divisive since there isn't the equivilent white one.

There is talk here from a religious freek in the church of England, that we should allow themuslims to apply some of their muslim doctrines in preference to British ones. THAT is a non starter.
