What do you think?
brainwashed world
I find people to be very brainwashed when it comes to ww2. Like people donīt really know anything about it but what the allied propaganda ministry wants them to know.

Excactly what was it that germany did that was so horrible to deserve a declaration of war in 1939?
what was the whole war about?

They invaded Poland you fucking spanner.
yes but there are many things weird in that.

1. Germany wasnīt the only one to attack polland. The soviet union and germany decided together to split it.
If the reason for the war had been the invasion, shouldnīt the allies then also have declared war on the soviet union?

2. Polland of 1939 was a psychopathic dictatorship created by the british in 1918 with the sole purpose of weakening germany. The allies forced millions of germans to live under polish dictatorship and denied them to belong to democratic germany of 1918.
By 1939 this Polish regime had executed thousands of innocent civilians for the sole crime of speaking out against them. A very large portion of the then western polland wanted to unite with germany, and helped that to happen.

Nevertheless the allies decided that this was a cause for a declaration of war against Germany.

I donīt know about you guys but the logic seems very fuzzy to me.
in addition to hummer: see the out of ww1 resulting treaty of versailles, lost provinces/states and insane reparations.
Hummer's view
Hummer is dreaming of a white Xmas. With Hitler as the messiah.

Hummer can't accept that Germany lost WWI and signed a treaty that they later broke.

Hummer looking to deflect responsibility awat from German people like a 9 year old blames doggie for eating homework.

Polly is a sham.
@: morton
Ima sham. Just as Germany had the choice not to sign it, pixie dust was responsible for the great depression.
In this day and age you are either brainwashed or a stoner.
germany signed the "treaty" of versailles with a gun pointed at itīs head.

"your country shall be broken into peaces where millions of your countrymen shall find themselves living under dictatorship.
You shall pay us a gargantuous amount of money and then you shall take all the blame for the war.
In exchange you will get nothing. Deal?"

@: hummer
Actually. We declared war on Japan first after they attacked Pearl Harbor. The day after that, Germany declared war on the United States. The United States decided to deal with Germany first because they were an immediate threat to our allies and mainly us.

Germany did invade Poland and the USSR had troops there. Germany attacked and occupied France. They also attacked Great Britain. All the while killing millions of Jews, gypsies, cripples, etc.

Didn't you pay attention in history class? There are thousands of witnesses and veterans and POWs that survived and gave their testimonies. Come ON man it's a DISGRACE that you think that they were innocent.
Iīm talking about when britain declared war on germany on sep.3rd 1939.
Years before anything of what youīre talking about.

Germany was being suspicious by taking over surrounding countries (Austria and Poland).

Germany started and lost WWI and therefore uncondittionally surrendered and were forced to sign Treaty of Versailles. The other option they had for losing was total destruction and obliteration.

They chose to sign and then break treaty. Invading other countries kick started WW2. They lost again blindly following Hitler.

Russia and USA could have obliterated Germany again. Instead Russa occupied East Germany, And USA developed Marshal plan and rebuilt country.
USA under Reagan then created Arms race to bankrupt Soviet Union and help free German people in the east. USA is powerful friend, Germans are forever forgetting history.
for starters it is not so much true that germany started the first world war, europe had been on the brink of all out war for many years and pretty much al the countries that were involved wanted it. when concerning the cause of war you have to look at the militarisation of everyday life ingrained into european society. in those days, army generals were about as popular as movie stars among the people, they were the david beckhams of today, most toys were in some way war related and wars were still seen as good things, in some ways like a sport.

there was much tension between nations and age old histories of war, they all wanted to out do each other and in that respect a power struggle emerged. Germany was a relatively new formed state only coming together as a single nation in the 1870's and was jealous of England and France's empires. given the circumstances war was pretty much inevitable, it just came down to which side was taken by who. when the axis powers lost, germany was forced to accept the blame due to the unforseen devestating effects the war took on both lives and the economy of those involved. the money had to come from somewhere and germany was left with the reparations.

the treaty of versailles is in many ways to blame for the problems germany faced in the subsequent decades and a very important factor as to why the nazis were able to take power, germany did take actions that they were fully aware would lead to war with the rest of europe. as bad as Poland may have been, it was officially a neutral state and had long standing alliances with britain for protection. Germany knew the score and they did start the war.
i forgot to address the soviet union's standing in all of this, they had signed a pact with Germany that stated they would not attack them, but they never allied with them nor did they fight for them, that is why they were not declared war on by the allied forces. russia didnt really want another war, it was still recovering from the last one

Fountainofknowledge history lesson is basically correct. Although in final analysis Germany did start WWI and Germany lost. Russia did side with Germany in order not to be attacked. Germany reneged and attacked anyway.

The real lesson in all this is that the German people were being told during WWII that they were winning. SO the German people supported the war of aggression Germany was waging- this is how Hitler gained such enormous popular support during 1939-1942.
It is debatable that the effects of the treaty cause Nazi to come in power. It was more the arian German supremecy view that Hitler tapped into, a view that the original post and many current generation Germans still have.

It wasn't until 1943 with the constant allied bombings over Germany that the German people began to realize they were losing.

The losing generation kept quite to their children (denial), and the grandchildren (current generation)
are living an historical lie.
@: morton
^...and the grandchildren (current generation)
are living an historical lie.^ ahmm... how is that? and how do you know anything about the germans nowadays.... just wondering! .. and yes, I grew up in germany, so enlighten me!! thank you very much
Another thing missed is the mass starvation caused by the British following WWI because of their continued blockade of German ports. This caused starvation and death that when combined with the humiliation of the repirations created the environment in which Hitler came to power.

That being said, it is moronic to think that the fall of Hitler's Germany is a "bad" thing. However, if blame is being passed out, much of what GB and France did following WWI created the inevitable second war. I am hopeful that we learned as a world that himiliation following conquest is a recipe for future conflict.
maybe discrimination of jews had to do with it.

The first World war began as a result of the assasination of Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo. It's a complicated matter but it resulted from a land-grab or 'occupation' by the germans under the guise of stabilty in the turmoil after the assassination.

There was a lot of instability in the Balkans even back then but it's safe to say that the movement of German troops made the rest of Europe very uncomfortable.

Most people would be amazed at how drastically the borders of European nations have changed over time. These days we think of national boundaries as sacred and being set in stone but that was not true of the time. The first world war was really a test of that notion.
