For a 16 year old, yes it is normal to have a fixation on something like that. It'll pass soon though. Remember, Vietnam isn't as glamorous as movies and the like make it out to be.
yea likw i was with my frend and we passed this marine core sign up thing and there was a pull up bar in front and i dare her 2 do a pull up on it and she did and we walked away and then the chik came out and was all how old r u and we told her our and and shes all well come bak when ur 17 so i think its pretty normal if ur 16 and u could join it if u wanted 2
Im a 16 year old in England, so I have the same thoughts (but about our war in the Falklands) but i know lots of other people that think like this, dont worry about it.
Ok i know its normal for boys to want to join the army - my bro and all his mates have joined the army cadets (RAF). I like music from 60's/70's as well, and I'm a girl. Vietnam though?? I think you had better drop that fantasy. Vietnam is a beautiful place, but the Americans got butchered!
I'm not trying to imply that joining the Marines is a bad idea, but I find your comment somewhat contradictory, as most popular music in the 60s and 70s spoke out against the war in Vietnam. Anyway, I'm 30 and I kind of feel the same nostalgia for that time period. So many factors and circumstances peculiar to that era converged to create a unique Zeitgeist that won't be duplicated for a long time to come.
It is unbelievable how the merciless slaughter of two million innocent civilians can be glorified so that young people actually desire to participate in it.
Imagine if the germans had won ww2, maybe youngsters today would be dreaming about executing the jews again.
US Casualty rate in Iraq: 9%
