hello. my name is jannie, and i am 13 years old. i love swimming and have been invited many time to go places, but have to not go because im on my period. i tried putting in a tampon, but it wont go in. is 13 too young to use tampons? if not, why wont it work for me? mabey im doing it wrong, so can someone tell me how. im too embarassed to ask my mom, or a school nurse. please some one help me

It's not exactly rocket science

Try reading the instructions that are packaged with the tampons.

And no, you're not too young to use them. I got my first period when I was your age, and wouldn't even conssider using pads. Tampons are the ONLY way to go.

Also, when a girl starts having periods, she is supposed to have regular gyno exams. I suggest you do that, and inform the doc that you are having problems inserting tampons, if you continue to have problems. It's possible that you may have an especially stubborn/thick hymen.
