If you've always had it and it hasn't changed in size or color, it should be okay. If you notice significant changes in the appearance of the mole, it could be a malignant melanoma i.e. skin cancer. Then you should check it out, and possibly have it removed. I do not recommend fingernail lancing techniques, but if push comes to shove...
