Darwin banned from biology classes
I could not believe what I heard today...(20-05-2005!)
In America there are schoolbooks in which 'stickers' are put to warn the children reading the books, that the Charles Darwin evolution theorie is just that...A theorie...
That said...Maybe I am crazy thinking it is more logical to have evolved from a little ocean fungus than it is to have being 'created' by some supreme being (like I am that special ).
But at least I have decided this myself, because I know both stories...And have an open-minded father and mother, that let me decide myself. Why enforce this b.t.w. ?
Is it normal ? That in this century there are still people (some of them even rule countries) thinking the earth is just 5000 years old ?
a.) I am not a Missy...
b.) Baby's are suposed too cry !
c.) Let 'God' tell me this himself please, are you his
marketingmanager or so ?
If this was a serious reply, Eric, people that act and react like you do are probably also the people who want the evolution 'theorie' out of the schoolbooks and that's the problem.
People like you...Acting as spokespersons for 'God'...Defending 'him' even ?!? Why bother with the disbelievers ? They will be punished in the end anyway and burn in Hell...Or is this also just a theorie ?
know that. At least the kids get to learn about it and decide what they believe for themselves.
Mmhh...So you were unhappy, found God (or God found you, like you so elegantly put it) and became happy ?! So according to you, without God a preson cannot be happy ?
I cannot believe anyone being completely happy with his or her life...I wish I was that narrowminded and could be happy while wars are happening while we speak, the global warming problem gets bigger every day and people are dying every minute because the medication that could save them will cost too much and so on, and so on...
Things and situations that don't make me feel comletely happy when I think about them...
But maybe when I believe in (some) God I couldn't care less, thanks for the tip !
When something is called 'The evolution THEORIE', what more is there to explain ?
I think relgious people should keep on denouncing evolution, it's doing them a lot more harm than good.
The trouble is I have religious friends and they are good and honest people in the main and it is difficult reconciling that with the stupidity being perpetrated in the name of Islam, etc all round the world.
I suppose once you have been indoctrinated by this hogwash from an early age it is very difficult to be objective about the fact that you are under the spell of an ancient social control mechanism.
Feel sorry for the religious people. Help them see the error of their ways. If that doesn't work we'll just have to sterilise them so that they cannot infect the next generation.
Glad to read that there are more people feeling sorry for those who 'believe' !
At the moment there is a show in Holland on television called 'God does not excist'. It is a series of interviews with people that have actually studied something ! and they explain why it is silly to believe in something like God and some explain just how it is possible that a grown adult believes in something that isn't there. Hell broke loose in Holland. :evil laughter:
An example from what somebody on the programm said:
"In America you have christmas with Santa Claus. This is nice when you are a kid, but when you get older you find out that Santa Claus is just a guy in a suit earning a few holiday bucks. So your 'believe' is corrected at a later age...With religion the mistake is that this correction never takes place."
(they used our Santa Claus in the storie)
When I heard this I had a grin on my face, because this is what I always say in discussions on the matter.
A very nice and discussed programm, which maybe will open some 'believers' eye's....If they dare to watch that is of course.
"Thou shall not test thte Lord, thy God"
Eveutionary theory is indeed a theory. Evolution is a fact, as is Natural Selection. The debate is whether or not the majority of human developement was evolution or creation. Carbon dating on fossils just bring up more questions. The missing links where what appear to be human forebearers are great, and even when the steps seem logical, the amount of time carbon dating puts them apart are almost an inconcievably short amount of time to make those transitions. As someone else pointed out, carbon dating can be thrown off, but these descrepencies seem to reappear a lot.
As for why enforce it? Religious people want to save as many as will be saved. This means stopping temtations and wrong beliefs.
I personally like guided evolution, in which a supreme being guided the evolution of bacteria into everything that is today.
If there was a god, why isn't everybody believing in the same one ?
Example:
People that have had a near death experience in which god spoke to them or they spoke to god describe 'him' differently all over the world. With a long white beard in Europe, with eight arms in India and so on. If there was a 'supreme being' wouldn't he, in the end, look the same to everybody ? Silly rabbit !
As for why not everyone worships the same one, look up the Tower of Babel. That is why humans are not one culture. It would make sense that after God banished you from his favor, you would find something to replace him. Hence the fake gods. I will also point out that God made us concious because he wants us to have the choice to love him, because that type of love means more.
And I hate the whole Trix rabbit theme. It is so stupid to say that a sugary breakfast item may only be enjoyed by human minors and young goats.
(Mental note to self: If Darwinians bearing pamphlets knock on my door on an early Saturday morning I will invite them in for coffee.)
I will not argue the existance of God. Every person can belive in whoever or whatever they please. I despise ANY religion that forbids this right and oppresses individuals.
Oh, we have now unlocked the genome (actually in 2003): This could shed some light on how the human race came about...
However, Creationism is not a theory, its just one of a million old ideas with no evidence for them. I could come up with one that fits the evidence more anyday, and just because lots of people have believed it doesn't mean we shouldn't admit it is one of the worst explantations.
The reason why creationism should not be taught on par with evolution/science is that it is not science! It is not a rational hypothesis that has been deduced from and tested against evidence! It is an old story that is no more science than a fairy tale is.
Its not about 'open mindedness' that children should not be taught creationism, its about teaching children things that actually have evidence to show they're true (or at least the best model.)
I think that at the moment children need to know about religions (but not just christianity) because they are memes that affect the way people and countries behave, and it seems we are having a new wave of religions having more influence at present.
Evolution theory isn't forced on people in the same way that we don't force children to believe that a ball near the earth will fall down... Theres a lot of things to tell the child that this is what happens.
But saying 'theres a sentient being who created the world x,000 years ago and you'll go to hell if you don't believe in him' is forcing, because, show me the evidence, and a book doesn't count. Loads of old books say complete rubbish, especially if the author doesn't test his beutiful but stupid idea, even newton wrote some complete rubbish when he was being a lax alchemist or whatever.
Vatican II declared a while ago that the theory of evolution does not conflict with any of your beliefs. This means that you are misinformed on what the evolution theory is, or you're just a fucking idiot.
merciful, i think not
Think about it, has anyone ever proved to you that humans evolved? Or have they just showed u nice diagrams and confused you with big words.
The scientific approach is no more ridiculous than a religous one. They are both just theorys, and in truth thats all we will ever have as this is something that is indeed impossible to actually PROVE.
Copies which inherited its characteristics.
Once such a molecule has formed, evolution starts.
4 billion years is a lot of time.
i believe in both God and evolution.
evolution is probably Gods way of changing his children over time.
I mean, of course anti-Jewish sentiment is and has always been around (in ours and nearly every other society), so not much can be done there, and anti-Muslim sentiment is gaining popularity because of the actions of the muslim extremists.
American children read books?
first of all understand wht is a fact
Generally, a fact is something that is the case, something that actually exists, or something that can be verified according to an established standard of evaluation. There is a range of other uses, depending on the context. People are interested in facts because of their relation to truth
evolution is totally illogical
A logical argument is sometimes described as "rational" if it is logically valid. However, rationality is a much broader term than logic, as it includes "uncertain but sensible" arguments based on probability, expectation, personal experience and the like, whereas logic deals principally with provable facts and demonstrably valid relations between them. For example, ad hominem arguments are logically unsound, but in many cases they may be rational. A simple philosophical definition of rationality refers to one's use of a "practical syllogism". For example,
I am cold
If I close the window I will not be cold
Therefore, I closed the window
there r no fukin facts to prove eveolution alright...so all the aboveguysshut the fuck up and get lost with ur insane theories
evolution is when characteristics contribute to the probable reproduction of a life form.
Under such circumstances, in the long run, qualities that enhances probable reproduction get more widespread whereas those who decrease it get fewer.
This is happening in front of our very eyes all the time. Nothing to prove, just look, its right there.
And with billions of years life can take unbelievable changes, always small steps at a time.
It's impossible to bypass this without a phenomenal degree of denial or lack of interest in the world.
Oh dear...So...Because it says somewhere in 'a book' (and I do know how important this book is for many people!) it is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?! Quite pathetic if people think like that. Who wrote the book? And why? All questions that cannot be answered are treated as god's mysterious ways and so...It's not mysterious at all.
Just like StarWars and Harry Potter it was or even is a good story, nothing more than that.
Were did you get your 'proof'? Do you believe everything you read? You just read it and thought 'WOW! That's heavy, I believe!'. Would you please read Harry Potter with the same enthusiasm please...Maybe you can do magic after it!
I cannot believe simply because I don't see 'in what' I should believe?! 'What' should I feel when I have found god? How do you know if it isn't 'the devil' giving me my 'loved feelings'?
You just cannot know. So I would fear everything if I were you. But that's another story.
But you forgot to tell that the pope at that time agreed to this only if there would never be talked about 'what was there before the big bang'.
Even the Vatican ('even'...HAHAHA! Bunch of pedophiles!) has got questions that they are afraid to ask. But they just call it 'lack of faith' if someone has questions...
At least he was an idiot that thought for himself.
