Its not about 'open mindedness' that children should not be taught creationism, its about teaching children things that actually have evidence to show they're true (or at least the best model.) Evolution theory isn't forced on people in the same way that we don't force children to believe that a ball near the earth will fall down... The debate is whether or not the majority of human developement was evolution or creation. Carbon dating on fossils just bring up more questions. The missing links where what appear to be human forebearers are great, and even when the steps seem logical, the amount of time carbon dating puts them apart are almost an inconcievably short amount of time to make those transitions. As someone else pointed out, carbon dating can be thrown off, but these descrepencies seem to reappear a lot. As for why enforce it' Religious people want to save as many as will be saved. This means stopping temtations and wrong beliefs.
