9 YR. OLD OCD.

I know a 9 year old little girl. I believe she has obsessive compulsive disorder but her mother denies it. The girl will not eat any food that is touching another food on her plate. She asks at least 5 times, before she goes to bed, if the doors are locked. She is constantly washing her hands. If she wants to do something, she will ask over and over again, if she can do whatever it is she wants to do, even though she has been told yes. I know adults can have O.C.D but is it normal for a child to have it? I have tried talking to her mother but she does not want her daughter going to a child phsychologist. I am really worried about this child.
Do you think it's normal?

Yeah, most children have some form of obsessive compulsive disorder. She might just be going through a phase. If it continues on for a long extended period and she seems to be getting worse, then just try and talk to the girls mother. There are mothers that are just in denial, but you know just tell her that you're really worried about this girl. But sometimes it's hard to get through to people. Good luck.

I am worried aboot this child as well as you. Let the mom deal with this Special kid in a way that only a mother could perform her motherly duty as boss. Maybe the kid is scared and also very polite?

Sounds like the kid is autistic.
A lot of times, a parent won't admit that his/her kid is anything less than perfect. That is why there are hotlines with people professionally trained to take calls from worried neighbors or friends.
its absolutly not normal she acts that way. i know alot about ocd, thank god idont have it but i have always been anxious in some ways. it is true that she may be going through a very extreme stage at the moment, when i was younger i was much more obsessive than i am now, so its very possible she will get better on her own. but you should leave the mother alone because she will continue to deny and sooner or later she will probably have to deal with it herself anyways. but it is completely normal for you to be concerned, b/c that behavior is definitly more than "a little obsessive."
I've shown simptoms of ocd since i was 4

She might not neccessarily have OCD itself(which is very extreme) but OCD-like tendencies, which are moderate to very little. If it gets worse I highly suggest you have a sit down with this mother and explain to her how this can in the long run hurt the child if not treated.
it's totally normal for a child to have a combination form of ocd and or hypochondria, possibly attention deficiet disorder as well, but yes have them see a child psycologist.
