Afraid to empty mind of all thoughts
I'm afraid that if I clear my mind of all thoughts, I'll lose my mind in process.

I really want to meditate and clear my mind of all thoughts. I could easily do it. I'm just afraid that none of the thoughts would come back into my brain and I'd be a tard.

lol people meditate all the time and they dont turn into tards, try it what have you got to lose, your thoughts?? isnt that the whole point in meditating and if your afraid to do it then just dont do it then
no i agree with Jess, If u clear your mind u will lose all ur memory. Trust me. I saw it on an episode of Spongebob Squarepants once.

meditation is focus. in can be found in absolute serenity or in utter chaos. all it really is is complete resolve to acomplish a task or reach a goal. a soccer player is in a trace-like meditation as he prepares to shoot a penalty. emptying your mind is a load of crap. that is impossible. your mind has to focus on at least one thing.

Now I'm thinking, though, that since my mind spins a million miles an hour I'm going to self administer some sort of physical pain and focus on that in order to slow things done to a focal point.

Any pain suggestion?

Meditation is a process people go through to clear their ind of all negative thaughts, the mind is a complex thing you can never officially 'run out' of thaughts, as you say, the mind always processes thaughts from the smallest to the biggest thing, sometimes randomly or at an innapropriate time.

Yes, cut yourself and then meditate.
Thats completely normal.
I've meditated before. It is a state of increased focus. You will not lose your memory. Usually, memory is lost when you have some sort of brain damage (or, the fact that memory is naturally transient anyways... but this fact won't change with meditation).
