Generally tampons aren't to be used until a girl is at least 16.
Also, It shouldn't hurt as long as you insert it right. It didn't hurt but it was a weird feeling until I got used to it.
Tampons are essentially densely packed plugs of cotton wool. The worst that you'll feel is discomfort. The use of an applicator may make things easier. I think the first thing to do is to get familiar with your private regions when you're having a wash - you will then be more comfortable with how tampons should be getting in there...
I agree, tampons should not hurt, but I can't believe nobody mentioned TSS (toxic shock syndrome). It is rare and preventable, but still a potential risk. Read the warnings on the box, talk to your doctor. Better safe than sorry.
Girl, you are totally normal, i remember being very scared. But just try it and after a few times it will be totally comfortable. I don't know what that person was talking about you have to be 16, but it's really whenever you feel ready. Good Luck!
Follow the directions in the box. You may feel a slight little pinch the first time but don't let this scare you.
I started using tampons at 13 and got used to them very quickly.
It's totally normal to be scared to try tampons. I was twelve when I first tried to use tampons (it's not true that you need to be a certain magic age to use them--you just need to have a period) and for 3 years I couldn't get them in because it hurt too much. This is totally normal for most girls who haven't used tampons because their hymens aren't broken yet. In case you're not sure what it is, it's this little sheet of membrane in your cervix--where you stick the tampon. You may need to "break" your hymen open, some hymens break more easily than others.. this usually happens from using the tampon, having sex, or it breaks on it's own. The "breaking" of the hymen can be a bit painful, so that's probably why it's hurting you to put a tampon in. It won't cause any damage to you when it breaks though.
Don't try and force it open if it's hurting too much, I know you probably want to be rid of pads as fast as possible though. I didn't start using tampons till I was 15, I got my period when I was 10.
My advice is to just try to put a tampon in once every time you get your period. Force it a bit but stop when it hurts. (are you using the slim Junior sizes? Don't try anything bigger till you can put those in). Eventually you'll be maxi-free!
IF YOU ARE THAT FUCKING WORRIED BUY MAXI PADS AND GET YOUR CHERRY POPPED SO IT IS AN EASIER EXPIRIENCE BY THE WAY WHEN YOU DO IT, DO IT ON THE RAG, WITH YOU PET OR ....SOMETHING
i recommend using ky jelly, i'm 20 and sometimes even i feel sore when using a tampon but by using a lubricant 1st it just slips in, it makes it alot easier and comfortable. Don't be shy when buying it, it's not just for sex. you can buy it in most chemists and will be near the condom area. You don't need to be a certain age either so don't worry. take care x x

To the person asking the question, I also recommend trying a smaller size at first.
