Is it normal to be afraid of crashing during flight on a plane or having someone hijack it? I am always afraid of going planes but after 45 minutes in im usually fine.
I've done a lot of flying and always worry about a mid-air collision, particularly while going through the clouds. I look out the window and imagine the end of the aircraft wing being clipped by another aircraft and then my plane spiraling down out of control, eventually impacting the earth into a massive fireball.
If over the ocean at the time, you wind up on the ocean floor, thousands of feet below and end up as fish food. I'm not trying to cause anyone nightmares, just sharing my thoughts.
siso I doubt mid-air collisions on passenger planes is a real threat- they probably have sensors for that kind of thing- I know the traffic control towers do.
I heard somewhere you are far more likely to die while driving on your way to work then taking a plane to vacation.
I used to fly alot and the only time I got nervous was a little at take-off, and alot at touchdown, especially in snow, you hear about skidding planes /shudder.
In the early 90s, I flew small Cessna planes while working to earn my pilot license, under VFR conditions only (Visual Flight Rules) and there is no radar on the small planes.
Commercial aircraft do have radar but not the single engine, small planes. I also came very close to literally having a mid-air over Long Island Sound with another small aircraft and never forgot it since. Mid-airs are rare but they do happen.
In Septmeber 1978, over San Diego, California, a Boeing 727 collided with a small Cessna and the jetliner nosedived into a suburban community.
actually, chances are that you will crash, so be afraid!!! VERY AFRAID!!! the plane is going to crash, the plane is going to crash. just think about how it would feel with everyone crying and screaming all around you. people yelling 'i dont want to die' 'please let me live' what would that feel like? just think about it before your next takeoff. that should calm you down a bit
No! Here are 10 fun facts that will help you!
1: plane crashes happen at least 12 times a day
2: all that keeps you up in the air is about 1 inch of aluminum
3: pilots have been found drunk before taking off
4: plane comanys want you to tuck in event of a crash because you will die, so they pay less.
5: snakes can easily get lose on a plane
6: If you die (you probably will), you will see a giant cat floating on a keyboard in space
7: computer hackers (like 76% of americans) can control a plane from the ground
8: hijackers will look like normal people.
9: some corrupted FFA officers will plant bombs in your suitcase and let it go thru the detector, thus turning you into a terrorist
10: more people die of plane crashes and hijackings than the war in iraq a day.
Nice soothing information Cloud_Dream, I'm sure that helped the poor soul's nerves. I'll be surprised if he/she never goes on a plane again. But personally, I think it is fairly nomral after 9/11. When I was small right after the attack I got a bit freaked out too. But hey...if life is just dream then death is just the waking up so what's the big deal??
