uneven skin tone help!

i have the worst skin, it is all different colours all over, and always looks dirty and dry no matter how much i bath and moisturise.

on top of this i have the occasional spot, which leaves a horrible mark on my skin that takes ages to fade (my skin marks easily)

this is making me so depressed. it is so important for someone (especially a girl) to have a clean even complexion in order for her to look good in her clothes, make up, hairstyle etc

i have totally lost interest in myself, it seems that whatever i wear, however i do my hair, i always look dirty and messy, because of my skin.

anyone got any tips on how i can get a clean clear even complexion?!
it is making me feel so depressed, its like everyone out there has better skin than me :-(
Do you think it's normal?

Seriously now, schedule an appointment with a dermatologist. There is no quick fix, from your story it sounds like you need a medical doctor who is a skin specialist and can tell you what options you have, whether treatment would be covered by medical insurance and if not, the cost out of pocket. Find out all the above. Your insurance company should be able to provide you a list of dermatologists under your health insurance plan.
do you live in america? i live in the uk, and not sure if i can get free skin advice
Yes Katie, I'm from New York. I don't know anything about medical care outside of the states. Your story seems one that a specialist would be able to handle, only after seeing you. I highly doubt there is anything you can purchase over the counter to clear your skin.

There are laser treatments today on clearing up skin, but many are considered cosmetic treatments and not covered by medical insurance.

I wish I could help but don't know of anything to suggest. I've visited dermatologists many times in the past and they are the ones to go to about any skin concerns.

You can try doing searches on the web for products to help, but I'm skeptical about products and their claims to work wonders. There are a lot of false advertisements on the market that claim to be effective and yet are useless, so better not to waste money on them unless you can confirm from someone that they actually work.

Good luck Katie.
thanks for the advice, but i have uneven skin all over my body, i doubt a dermatologist could do anything about that!
You should mention it to your GP. If it is getting you down and is causing you stress or depression something may get done on the NHS.
Exfoliate with sandpaper, that should even it out.
Cosmetic surgery is very popular today. I'm sure just about anything you want to have done, can be done, but insurance usually will not cover for it. It comes down to money like many things. If insurance covered for cosmetic procedures, there would be no end to the numbers of people getting things done.

There is no harm or big expense in asking a dermatologist what options you have and what the out of pocket cost would be. Recently, I had 6 moles shaved away from my face and chest and it cost me US$500 since the dermatologist said it is cosmetic and insurance would not cover for it. Still, glad I had it done.
I had a friend who had uneven skin. It was a pigment problem. She took some pills and put cream on it and it was better. Im not wat kind of pills she took but I could ask her. You should probably ask her doctor first or go see a dermatologist.

oh right you will have to ask her what cream and pills she took as i am desperate to get this sorted out, it is ruining my confidence and stoppin me from having a social/love life.

i have uneven skin more or less all over my body, some bits are dark, some bits light etc
but it is mainly on my neck, face, and chest area. the skin on those three areas are all totally different colours, makes me feel like an alien, abnormal!

those are the areas i want to even out. i went to a well known skin specialist company called the harley medical group the other day, and they suggested medical microdermabrasion, it is a course of six weekly treatments, and sounds like it might work, but it is too expensive - £400!! i dont even work right now, but still, if i had the money, i would definitely do it, i am at my wits end right now, and would try anything!!
Hmm. Ok. but wat she took my be expensive too
@: ctman5
still ask her anyway, thanks
