Fat for everyone but me!

I have a little brother who is about twelve, I however am 16. All of my middle school and highschool life I have been obese, now topping the scale at 248 pounds and counting. I have to see a dietician, psychiatrist and indocrinologist(hopefully spelled those right) because I have a disorder called poly-cystic ovary syndrome, or something like that. If i gain more weight and don't take care of myself I wont be able to have children when I get older. I do care about my life and the life of my future family but I eat when I'm depresed. a lot!
Also, when I look at myself in the mirror I see minor imperfections like double chin, acne, and stretch marks but I see myself as a fairly ok looking curvy person. however when I see a video or picture of myself I am 10 times bigger and know that this is how my friends and family percieve me. it is like the opposite of bulimia or anerexia. i see myself as smaller in the mirror than bigger. is this normal? PLEASE LEAVE COMMENTS! I NEED SUGGESTIONS!
Do you think it's normal?

Trickery
Have you got one of those mirrors like they have at the circus that makes you look like a midget?

There is no simple route to losing weight. You need a lot of self discipline but you will not be able to tackle it head on by just eating less, that is too diffcult. What you need is a reason to lose weight, everybody is different but find a good reason that works for you. When I have to lose some weight I fixate my mind on getting fitter for some type of sporting event. That way I can justify not eating "that cream bun". Maybe you want to look good for somebody, I don't know. Speak to other women that have done and find out how they did it.

What does this have to do with..
your brother ? Why did you mention him right at the begining ?
sorry, lost my train of thought
i'm sorry, i started off trying to say one thing and then got off topic. i was going to mention that when my brother's friends come over they make fun of me and call me names like fat-so, and fat girl. i wanted to mention this to show how my weight is affecting my life but i got off track. please forgive me, i was having a dumb blonde moment there! (although i'm a brunette, but i have blonde days if you know what i mean!)
PCOS
Hi there,

I have PCOS as well. It sucks, I know. Be thankful you don't have (or didnt mention) some of the other horrible things it comes with... the general man-like appearance (including a beard). That's a good way I like to look at it. I may struggle with my weight, but at least I look like a girl.

Back to the weight issue. I struggled with the same thing. And freshmen and sophomore year in college didn't help either.

First thing I would suggest doing is talk to your doctor about going on the medication Metformin and a super low birth control (like Yasmin). Seriously, Metformin saved my life. It took away the HUGE sugar cravings that come with PCOS (because of too much glucose in your system), which helped me to stop wolfing down an entire bag of twizzlers a night. It also helps your body produce less glucose, which is partially responsible for fat storage. Somethign like that anyway. :)

After I went on Metformin, I started working out. I think running is the fastest way to lose weight. I couldn't do much when I started... 4 minutes at 5.7mph. But I built up over a year and have been able to stick to it. I usually want to give up after a month of being good, but FORCE yourself to do it. After two months in the habit you'll actually miss it when you skip a day. Now I run about 3 miles in a day and weigh 125lbs. Not too bad considering what I have!

Good luck!

All I know is that you MUST take better care of yourself, and there is a lot of helpful reading material and groups out there.

As for the mirror thing, I know what you are talking about. Photo's always seem to blow you up a bit. For instance, I've always been a fairly thin girl, but in photo's I would think, "God, I've got thick thighs". So I think it is normal, but I never know which image is accurate, the mirror or the photo...
I do that all the time. You feel like you're a rock star and you look super good and then you catch a glance of yourself in a shop window and your clothes look too small and your hair is messed up....I just heard two women talking about this phenomenon today at the gym. I usually look back at the window and stick out my tongue. I think you also start thinking poorly of yourself when you have some jerk hanging out at your house who feeds off pointing out your imperfections. Fact is is that you are a curvy sista and that's not ugly! Just listen to your doctors and follow their advice no matter how crappy it is to eat different things while everyone else is eating whatever they want. The most important thing is to be healthy. Stay happy. Learn lots from life. Fall in love. Have your babies.
Women in general obsess too much about their weight and their appearance in general, but if it's a health issue then it needs attention. I wish you all the luck and my prayers are with you. I like curvy sistas! Yum!

BTW, tell the insensitive jerks to keep their useless mouths shut, or you will do it for them!

Do I know you?
You sound like this large girl I know. She too is overweight and feels like she is absolute hot shit (even though you said you don't feel like "hot shit" but you said you felt "okay looking"). She's brunette and says the same "I'm having a dumb blonde moment, even though I'm brunette". I swear I know you and if you are who I think you are you should probably stop trying to hit on every guy you see. You're fat at really ugly.

If you're not this girl, I apologize. You should try and do something else when you're bored or depressed. Anything else would be helpful, play a video game, go for a walk, anything. I'm sorry for exploding at you if you're not this girl, she just pisses me off so much.

PCOS and Gastric Bypass Surgery
My wife has PCOS and the weight is certainly an issue. She realized that she had to do someting serious about the weight (after failing at various diets and really lacking the motivation to excercise ... when you are heavy it actually is difficult to exercise!) and opted for gastric bypass surgery. It is a sucess story, losing about 100 pounds. With decreased weight there are fewer health problems and hopefully the PCOS will rectify itself. Many insurance companies are now covering gastric bypass surgery. I would suggest this as a "last resort" (it is somewhat risky surgery and will dramatically change the way you eat) but it does get the weight off! Best of luck to you!
about the mirror thing, it might just be the lighting. get some good makeup to fix your complexion and your acne to balance the lighting. i also dont know much about PCOS (am i saying it right?) but you'll be in my prayers.
tell your brother and his friends that what their saying hurts their feelings and start insulting their imperfections. show them how it feels. tell them that you have a medical disorder that makes you look this way.
i agree with the poster that said exercising helps you lose weight fast. try yoga, its relaxing and not to hard to do, but it burns calories.
i wish you luck and love¢¾
Yor really need to take care of yourself girl. did you know being too overweight can kill you?? my mom was telling me the other day about this guy she knew from highschool died at age 30. he had so much fat surrounding his heart that it just quit working. She is constantly onto my brother because of it. hes 16 and almost 300lbs. he has back problems and all sorts of things. you need the motivation to work out and eat less. try seeing if a family member will work out with you. that would help keep you motivated. i dont want to scare you but you need to be aware of what can happen.
I think it's strange you whine about ppl making fun of you for being fat but you find it acceptable to mock blonde people...
One of my best friends has poly-cystic ovary system. She is only about 25 or 30 lbs over weight (this is a guess, i've never asked her weight) but I know it bothers her.

I don't know if she sees herself as thinner in the mirror but I think she might, or else she's just in denial or covering up her insecurity, because we used to have a fat teacher and she'd always make fun of the teacher.

So I don't know if she thinks she is thinner than she is or if she jsut hides it.

Don't starve yourself to try to loose weight thoguh because if you eat nothing one day you're likely to eat more the next day and your body will store it or something in case you starve yourself again. (according to my science teacher)
...
crap.

syndrom. not system.
