America is a great country
Ok, I don't like George Bush. Never voted for him. I do not agree with most of the things he has done, or tried to do. But America is a great country. It is a great country to live in, to visit, to get educated in, to work and make money in. Millions of people all over the world clamor to get into this country, even just temporarily. ANd for millions more, coming to America is nothing more than a distant dream they dare not even hope for.
BUt speaking of the mindless, ignorant America bashing that is so fashionable throughout the world, I must say that what porks me off the most about it is that most of the people who do this bashing would be living under the tyranical yolk of totalitarian regimes if not for the actions and values of the US.
Do I agree with US foreign policy? In many respects no. Hell no. I have been to washington DC. to protest US foreign policy more then once.
But I would not for one moment leave the world in the hands of the religious zealots in the Islamic world, the corrupt power mongers of the former soviet union, or the philosophically bankrupt pacifism of many in Europe who learned the wrong lessons from the great battles to defeat Naziism and Stalinism. Nor would I leave the world in the hands of the brutal dicatorship government of China.
In short, America is the worst of the powers-that-be in the world, until you compare it to every other power-that-be in the world, and then it is the best.
