Everytime I take a sh*t, I look in the toilet and examine my sh*t (length, girth, color). Once I get that through, I flush it down the toilet. Is this normal?

I do the same thing, but not so in-depth. I just look and flush.

I like to photograph it, and keep extensive records. Checking my records, once back in the 70's I dropped a 16 incher, it was a lovely green color with a 6 inch girth.
