I am kind of confused...please help:
first of all my family is not religious at all...i have never been to church in my life. but in the past year i have been feeling really spiritual/religious. sometimes i think that maybe im like a descendent/relative of god or something because i feel like i have direct connections with him, like if i walk by a church i feel god's presence. and sometimes i feel like not only do i have connections to him, but i actually think that i am him because of various signs that all lead up to me possibly being god. do you think i could be possessed by god...? i am really confused. i dont know what to say to my family b/c they will think im faking it b/c were not religious. but i honestly feel like i am god sometimes, and that maybe i am realizing that i have a big role to play in life- like doing all the things that god did. is this okay?

I would just like to say that you are not alone. There are many, many people in the world who question their own faith in this way. Also, that God can and does speak to us in many different ways. We are all God. (I am not a religious person in that I don't practice any kind of church religion, although I do absolutely believe that God created our universe). Be open with your heart (it is important that it is not your ego because this can lead to psychological problems) and at all times question with only love and the purest, highest intentions. Go with the flow and see what happens as long as it is a positive and loving experience for you. It is always your choice, you are always the one in control.
I had same feelings, because of signs like me waking up calling up on moses to gather my people or being in a earth quake and see this temple break in half and me waking up laughing so differently like another person. and more fucked up people around me saying I was him.
but who knows, just do whats right and when u die ull know for sure if u was God.
Reality is not a question of perspective, of how you see things which exist by themselves, NO, things exist only inside ourselves, reality is a question of creation, the diference between dreams and when you're wake up are none at all. The world we see at broad daylight is just a product of our imagination as much as dreams. We are god, we define the world's morals, we say what is good and what is wrong, what is beyond the reach of our senses doesn't exist at all.

Don't be fooled. Many atheists have been immunised against this kind of thing becuase they experienced religious indoctrination as children and were able to reject it. Your parents have helped you immensely by giving you a religion-free upbringing, but the disadvantage is this lack of exposure to the religious mind-virus and therefore you are currently vulnerable to it.
Thinking you may be God is actually a sensible question to ask and goes right back to the roots of philosophy, indeed logically there is a real risk that "I" is god, it goes back to "I think therefore I am".
I suggest going and reading about secular philosophy and about the how religion works. There are some great books out there. Try Dawkins "the God Delusion" and "God is not great". There are many other great books too, but make sure they are properly referenced and the writers do not have vested interests - like they are members of a religion, make sure they are scientific and have an understanding of logic and evidence based thinking.
Finally realise that chemical changes in the brain, permanent or temporary can have a dramatic effect on the brain and how we feel. You wouldn't believe how strong depression can feel until you have experienced it. Your feelings may be spurred by some such temporary imbalance, so give it time to pass.
Steven Sadlier has a book out called Christ Enlightened. It is a historical overview of religious origins and how they have changed over the last couple thousand years, and it describes a Christianity very different from the doctrine that exists today. In my opinion, any true Christian would want to learn more about Jesus--the God/man they put all of their faith in.
Another book I'd recommend is called You Are God, Get Over It, written by Story Waters. This book gives you a lot of ideas...a lot to ponder over.
This post isn't necessarily for the OP because I believe he/she is already gaining some understanding of their path...a lot of comments above me were stating the very same things I was feeling and wanted to express.
To the rest of you: you don't NEED to be afraid (My mother, a devout Christian, once told me she was afraid to read any other spiritual ideas as she might become confused and questioning of her faith!). Anyway, your existence and choice in this life is neither better or worse than mine. There is nothing wrong with seeking knowledge, thought and choice. Don't let anyone tell you what to believe. Even a Christian, with all the judgments people throw at them, would experience a level of awakening when they open up their hearts to the love and wisdom of God(higher self, universe).

Frankly, you know nothing about God. You can't know anything about God. The only thing we have telling us about God is a book written by MAN. It's MANS interpretation of God and it's MANS interpretation of whats right and whats wrong.
And I don't buy that BS that the bible was written through God's word. He doesn't sit there talking to people in their head saying 'Hey, don't forget the hell part. Oh, make it sound really bad.' No, it's the invention of man. It's mans most feared punishment. According to most of the old versions of the Bible we're all going to hell. Also, did you know the Catholic/Christian Bible was based off of the Muslim Bible? The Bible also says it's okay to own slaves. Because a son of Moses seen his father naked and Moses said that all of his descendants were to be a slave to his brothers.
Also, in the old testament it bans intermixing ANYTHING. Whats your shirt made of? Polyester cotton blend? YOUR GOING TO HELL. Ever talk to a woman on her period? HELL. Eat shellfish, pork, or lamb? HELL HELL AND HELL. Tattoos? HELL. We're also supposed to burn everything the woman on her period touches. If not, HELL. Preaching God and looking down on others is ALSO banned by the Bible. If you want to preach the Bible you better be fucking ready to follow ALL of it. You can't nitpick it.
At the end of the day nobody can speak what God wants. God is a watcher, not a meddler. If he was do you know how many people would have porches and be rich? Do you know how many cancer patients would survive? Fact is, you have no idea how God works. You have no idea what God wants. Hell, God could be fucking smacking you in the face and you wouldn't know it because you're clinging to a 2000 year old book that ignores that the earth is millions of years old.

You should only be concerned if you're experiencing other signs of mental illness such as psychosis or symptoms of schizophrenia maybe. That would make you unstable and is a recipe for potential disaster as psychosis tends to increase over time. Otherwise these thoughts are harmless, especially if you genuinely believe yourself to be a good person and not goal-oriented towards world domination, then hey, maybe God will show up one day and ask for your help!
