I'm a realist who can admit that white people and black people (or any race) DO have differences. Physically and culturally. You can tell your heritage from your bones.
I have been called racist before, but because I use terms like 'black' instead of 'African America' (I don't see you calling me German-American Indian-French-Canadian. I feel if you were born in America you are just 'American'. We needn't list our ancestry) and that I don't believe in things like the National Negro College Fund or Affirmitive action. All races should get college money and we should get jobs based on skill. I also find it amusing when I brought up a theoretical 'National Caucasian college fund' it was deemed EXTREMELY racist.
I will call out things that are 'reverse' discrimination that favors black people over everything else. Basically, I hold everyone to the exact same standards. It's gotten me in trouble with my mostly black college peers, but I wont sugarcoat my opinions. No one race should be favored. And if you don't want me to use a word, don't use it yourself.
Honestly I don't see myself as racist. If I see a bunch of mean looking black guys I'll cross the street as fast as I would if I seen a bunch of mean looking white guys. I'll make race jokes at ANY race, and I believe that some stereotypes exist for a reason. Mostly because you're more likely to remember the loud, saggy panted, 'thug life' black guy then you are the quiet and respectable black guy. Same with any race, nationality, etc.
However, I do think of black people as being more racist. I've been called 'Cracker' more times than I can count. But I've never made an argument about race. Infact, I outline the history of the word 'Cracker'. It comes from the word 'Whipcracker' referring back to the slavery days when they were whipped. And that makes ME racist. And it's been assumed, multiple times, that I am avoiding talking to black people because I'm racist. I'm just a quiet girl who doesn't talk much outside of class and enjoys reading in public places.
So, am I 'normal' or 'racist'?

In my opinion black people play the slavery card to much. I mean sure most slaves in this country before the civil war were African Americans but some of them were inidian, white and other nationalities. In the 1800's even black people owned slaves! Slavery has always been a part of history. Do you ever hear the Jews complain about WWII? I think not!
OP, you are very wise. It just sucks that people who point out the truth like you are seen in a negative light.
Keep up the good work. It's nice to know that people like you still exist.
I really hope you're still reading this so that you can see that you have my support and that of many others.
Black people think the world owes them something.
If something is different they're used to treating it differently. In actuality, I think it's perfectly acceptable (even common sense) to treat people differently; usually it's out of respect. What we shouldn't do is limit people's opportunity.
Americans are born in the United States of America.
Americans, Mexicans, Canadians, Chileans, Brazilians, Peruvians, the Surinamese, Hondurans, Panamanians, etc. are all born in America.
But you know what I meant, right?
Of course I know what you mean, 90% of the country refer to themselves as 'America'. It's a technicality and a pet peeve of mine, I just thought I'd mention. Didn't think it deserved a thumb down, though. Haha.
I don't know if you ever saw me say it, though.
lulz taught me the proper way to refer to the USA.
Thank you lulz! ^_^
Some (the white folks) came to make a better life for themselves and their families.
Others (black Africans) came because they were brutally kidnapped, beaten, raped, and forced to work as slaves for white people. And this sort of "background" has repercussions that last for generations upon generations.
Slavery ended a long time ago, but the effects of it are still visible in the generations that are alive today. The laws no longer condone slavery, but it will take much longer for the oppressive cultural norms to subside. Until then, the descendants of slaves have a tough legacy to overcome.
There were more Indians killed by the US government then Jews in the Holocaust. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_many_Native_Americans_were_killed_by_the_US_government The low number being 10 million. The high number for Slaves killed on the boat ride over are 1.3-4 million. After that it wasn't profitable to kill your slaves, not sure where the line between victim of slavery death or just old age for the time. I mean, if they died cause they bled out from whipping, thats a slave death. But if they just tripped down some stairs and died I'm not sure how you'd count that.
So the whole 'Slavery' argument isn't quite valid point. All races have suffered from one point or another.
I know what you mean. It can't help that the 'thug life' is glamorized in popular music these days.
I was raised in that scene. My mom and dad did crack daily. My dad sold it. We had drivebys and one time I watched my dad actually shoot my uncle. It took them three tazers to get him to come down. I had to fight to survive, but nobody would guess it because I'm paler than a ghost, reserved, and prefers books over people.
Same with me, my Grandmother was Portuguese but I am English.
As for the racist stuff, I don't think you are. You hold no malice towards anyone it seems and as races we do have differences, such as bone structure and facial traits. But it doesn't make you racist for knowing and acknowledging that.
Every country/people have likes and dislikes even hates - all the time , of their neighbours ,or the other religion, or the other culture, or the other race , it's quite normal and been that way for 1000's of yrs . But for some reason the whites/black thing gets politically corrected until we're all brain dead from it- total bs.
I can't stand some things about blacks but there's other things I admire- so what that's not racists just practical honesty - they'd feel the same way about me/us.
One thought comes to mind though , maybe if it's just left to flow in it's true natural way ,things might explode between the two bc if you ask me neither really like each other all that much deep down but it's a case of have to live together so best keep it civil .
But really , if it was left up to natures laws centuries ago , the two totally different races wouldn't even be sharing the same country anyway .
I could honestly see why it could sound racist coming from a white person. There's been a 'holier than thou' attitude going on for a really long time. I've actually been discriminated against because of my color (SUPER pale. I like to say I'm an Albino Indian, really I just stay in a lot XP) before and that's why I take a stance that we should all be held to the same standards as everyone else.
I don't expect to get special treatment because I'm Indian. What happened to my ancestors was horrible, and still within the last 40 years has the treatment been continued. But I don't think their suffering should bring a boon for me. I highly doubt they were thinking 'One day my great grand-daughter will get a reward from my death!' I think they would want me to be a stronger, independent person who shows the world that she can, and will, stick up for herself and make a difference in the world.
I agree with a lot of what you wrote since I hold a lot of those same beliefs. I am black and believe that being black shouldn't grant me special treatment over white people. After a traumatic racial history the last thing I need is to pitied because I'm black.
no idea what all this minority privilege is too by the way. im from england and we don't have anything like that here.
we are ALL different.
opinion of a black guy.
Obviously.
Am I a thief for wondering what it would be like to be a criminal?
No.
You can't know that something is wrong... wrong in this context is based on opinion so for yourself you may be right but other people (like me) might not share your (shallow) opinion and you have to deal with it... Otherwise you'd be pretty stupid!
PS: I don't fuck animals if you didn't get what I said before^^
However, yeah judging someone you don't know is pretty ignorant I'd say that's the reason I try to avoid that but sometimes or even most of the time you can't really control it :(
