well, if 90%% of your community is asian, then the majority of people driving crazy will be asian too. so when you only pay attention to cars, when they're driving crazy, then yeah they'll likely be asian.
if you don't want to stereotype, just take racial terms out of your vocabulary as much as possible. (i.e. "that person drives crazy!" vs. "that asian drives crazy") if you stop using race as a way to label people, you'll have a harder time stereotyping. you'd be surprised how much just changing the way you word things can affect your thoughts.

My closest Asian friend has:
gotten ticketed for speeding out of school when the officer was sitting right at the exit in plain sight with his blues on.
wrecked a car because you just can't go from 60 to 0 on slush as fast as you can on dry pavement. He was also doing double the speed limit.
ran into his best friend's stone wall and destroyed it.

Most stereotypes seem to have at least half-legitimate origins.

LOL I'm asian and yea i do notice that some of "our kind" can't drive to save our own lives

Not very fair to take this out purely on Asians. I think we should reverse the statement altogether: there are only a few nations in the world where drivers are actually pretty decent and orderly. I was just at Athens a few weeks ago and their driving was absolutely crazy too! It depends a lot on the culture. Sometimes, people just don't bother driving by the law.

Everyone behind the wheel of an automobile is a dangerous driver. Race does not play into it.

I havent witnessed any of these asians but sounds about right anyways.

Where I live, it's not the Asian drivers you need to worry about. It's the young Puerto Rican drivers. They tend to floor it in parking lots, roads and highways alike. Personally I've never known an Asian that drove like a maniac.

There is nothing racist about pointing out an observation. If the repeated subject of that observation happens to fall in a racial category, so be it. Get over it, you bunch of whiners.

My daughter and I have developed a standardized code from our weekly travels to LA based on the poor driving of others. (We, of course, drive perfectly.)

You'll see it is not race-based, color-based or age-based ... we hit everybody. I know some of you will get your little feelings hurt so I'll apologize in advance: I'm dreadfully sorry.

These codes were formulated for two reasons; 1) because the drive got a little boring at times, and 2) they allowed us a quick and very shallow method to identify drivers who fell repeatedly into the category that makes you want to a) flip them off; b) floor it to get around them; c) take a baseball bat to their windshield; d) remind them that their alarm clock went off this morning and now IT'S TIME TO DRIVE, YOU IDIOT!!!, or all of the above.

So the use of these codes may simplify the measures to which you might go when your frustration redline is exceeded; ie, it's better to yell "You Code 4A!!!" out the window than something else that's blatantly insulting (however truthful) or could get you shot.

Here we go:

Code 1: Asian (what a surprise)
Code 2: Old folks
Code 3: Mexicans
Code 4: Blonds
Code 5: Minivans

The codes can be mixed and further modified, too. For instance, a blond in a minivan would be a 3-5.

An additional modifier is the cell phone which carries a code A. So a blond asian on her cell phone (she obviously bleaches her hair -- hey, it's LA!) would be a 1-4A.

We never came up with a code for texting. No code would really be severe enough (you folks know who you are, don't you ...)

So, there isn't any doubt that "by and large" Asians are in another galaxy when they're going down the road ... doing 20 mph less than the flow of traffic ... in the fast lane ... with no thought, care or concern of others around them. They're out there somewhere enjoying the view from planet Woo and can't be bothered with the petty little annoyances of others who may actually have somewhere to go.

I truly would love to know what it is that they are thinking. Truly.

you say you live in an area that is 90%% chinese. this means whenever you have a close call in traffic, chances are the person in the other car is going to be chinese. this doesnt mean that all asian people are bad drivers, it means you are taking notice of their ethnicity everytime you have a near accident. that sounds kinda racist

haha. im half japanese and im a great driver. i mean i drive a little to fast at times. but otherwise im a great driver.ive witnessed other asians arent good drivers. so yeah i guess its normal.

I haven't encountered a lot of bad asian drivers. The ghetto black ladies in my area are the dangerous ones. They will nearly sideswipe my car while giving a "You better move or I will cut you look".

i'm asian. i don't drive very well. some of my asian colleagues (we're not dumb though, all university professors) do not drive well either. but i don't know how true the stereotype is.

I think it relates to the phenotypical ocular traits. The spatial processing of these people is limited at best. Combined with inadequate English language knowledge results in tragedy on the roads.

Because I have a nice house, the schools are excellent and my nearest neighbors are pretty nice. I should be driving an armored personel carrier but otherwise it's pretty sweet.

I just couldn't resist sharing this experience...As I was getting my mail in my subdivision, I noticed a car driven by an asian had bypassed the street it needed. (The street was my street, a crescent street.) Instead of pulling into a driveway and turning around, he stop in the middle of the road and proceeded to put it in reverse while waving the cars behind him around with his hand out the window. (Yes people were honking.) So a bit later I left to go to the supermarket. No joke, the same car was on the other outlet side in my crescent, trying to reverse out onto the intersecting street. He was in the middle of the street yet again waving the car that was honking to turn in. So why he couldn't turn into a driveway yet again? Not sure. Why he couldn't just drive around the small crescent in drive/forward? Not sure about that either. It was quite amusing though :-).

I have to agree, Asians are some of the worst drivers in the world. Only NEW YORKERS are worse drivers than Asians.

It's because Asians have different styles of driving.

They got squinty eyes and can't see all that well. Give them a break. They have a different slant on things....

Also they only have hair only on one side of their cunts. Do you know what side?

I agree. There are bad drivers in every race...HOWEVER...Asian drivers win the top award for disobeying the road rules they were supposed to study in the driver's handbook. It's not thier fault. CA needs money and will give a license to anyone who can pay the fees. I'm told by Asian colleagues that Asian drivers just don't care. Some carry their own private insurance and if they hit a car, so what? They just go out and get another one and pay the fines. They MUST be first. In their country, it is a status symbol to own and drive a car. Cycles and pedestrians have no right-of-way. Well goddammit, you have fought your way into the US out of shanty squalor ...now pick up the goddamn drivers manual and learn about signals and RIGHT-OF-WAY rules. You don't turn into a driveway without a signal in front of a car that is driving toward you going straight in the opposite direction. Right-of-way is the oncoming traffic goes first and then you turn when, either when someone is courteous enough to let you in or when there is no oncoming traffic coming your way from the opposite direction. Signals are on your car for a reason! Be a little more courteous on the road when you see a HUGE bus trying to merge to an exit. You better watch it out there...people are getting more desperate and crazier than ever. You never know when you will make someone mad enough about your bad driving that they will pull out that hidden gun. Beleive that and beware. Please start following the proper road rules. That 99 Ranch Market isn't going anywhere. It will be there when you park!

Asians seem to be the worst in australia. At a roundabout never seem to care who inside already. They just go right through risking not only their own lives, but others as well. I will give credit where credit is due, they make great doctors and professors but as drivers, they're fucked

Middle aged asian adults are very wreckless when driving, and they hate it when they can't have their way. The ones from my Vietnamese church like to park in prohibited areas. They don't give a crap about tickets/fines.

there is no disputing it. It has nothing at all to do with racism so those who always harp on that convenient lever just stop it. some things are just cultural. My parents live in a place called "Little Saigon" in California, so enough said there. But I witness it every day when I am there and when I see in amazing driving stunt or some driver impeding the free flow of traffic, it is always, and I mean always, it is an asian driver hands down. Recently, several surveys surfaced here in Southern California about drivers tests taken at local DMV offices. They revealed that many asians who were applying for driver's licenses or renewing, were indeed not the ones who were taking the written tests, but rather someone else like a family member or friend!! That says it all for me! (And yes they did it after their fingerprint was taken.)

# 1 SoulDaddy has hit the nail on the head...as have many others. I drive in Oregon about 10 miles to work. The Asian drivers make me crazy. Not only do they drift out of their lanes, fail to turn on (or off) their turn signals, drive mini vans under the speed limit while sporting gloves and visors, and then come to a complete stop when making a turn onto a side street.

#3 We have a lot of Hispanics in the Portland area too. Seldom do I have an issue with them. I think they like to follow the rules and stay under the radar...hmmm I see another subject matter here...

#4 The bottom line is, if people from other countries come here (legally) and want to drive they should first be able to read and understand our language...TAKE THE TEST IN ENGLISH!!! The states are doing all nationalities a disservice when giving a test in their native language and expect them to know the rules of the road when the signage is in ENGLISH. I do not want to start seeing more signs in other languages to accomodate other nationalities. When in Rome do as the Romans do...the rule applies here too. It makes me crazy when you go to an ATM and it is in Spanish and since I don't read Espanol too well, I have to fuss to get the screen changed back to English. It makes me crazy when I have to identify what language I want on an interactive voice response system...if English press #1 etc.

Again, my point is, if other nationalities come to America, the nned to learn to read, write, speak and drive like an American.

Oh...one more thing...when in the shower at the gym...it just gags me that the Asians think it is the time and place to clean their noses. They suck in the water and force it back out but plugging one nostril. Yes, they even do it in the sink area for all to see. I don't need to see it nor step in it. Go HOME to clean the snot from your nose...you are in America now!
